Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, February 28,2007 - FIVE A view from the hill Pictured is Kathleen Hisler with some of her family members on Saturday, March 24. By Doris Brosnan The view from W illow Creek Terrace is greener as February fades into March, and thoughts turn to getting outside to do som e spring p lan tin g . R esidents have started p lanning th e ir garden, anticipating digging in the rich soil, the variety of colors and textures, the blossoms, and som e g re a t-ta stin g vegetables. Though the cool w inter w eather has kept most everyone indoors for most of February, no one has lacked for opportunities to stay busy this past month. Every week residents can play bingo or work on crafts w ith m em bers o f the N azarene C hurch; play pinochle with Joe Burleson; listen to the reading of the H eppner G azette Tim es; play games or work on crafts w ith m em bers o f the Catholic Church; exercise with the staff; take in a w eekend-m atinee movie; and take advantage of the book- and the tape- exchange. Of course, the Super Bowl, on February 4, kept several residents glued to the TV and not interested in the stormy weather outside. A little m ore in te re st was added to the game when some residents participated in a wee bit o ’ wagering. Ed Dick won the pot for the first and second quarters, Jessica Skillings took the third- q u a rte r pot, and Tonya Vawser won the end-of- game pot. Ten days later, residents dressed up for the T e rra c e ’s S w eeth earts C andlelight Dinner. Soft strain s o f love songs provided ambiance for the special occasion. Music and dancing was the en tertain m en t a couple of days later, when Alicia Rennison’s students danced their way into the hearts of the audience. And jazz music was the mood- se tte r w hen resid en ts celebrated Mardi Gras on the 19th. Beads, beads, beads and jambalaya topped off the celebration. On Shrove Tuesday, February 20, nine residents rode the bus to the Episcopal C hurch’s Pancake Super. Everyone had a great time in fellowship with the other diners, and many attended Ash-Wednesday services the next day at their churches. O ne o f the m ost im p o rtan t d ates on the February calendar was the twenty-first. Kathleen Hisler celebrated her 99th birthday w ith her n eig h b o rs and family. A call from a dear frien d , A n ita L utcher, completed her celebration, and Kathleen had another family gathering on the 24th. February wrapped up with a meeting of the Book Worms on the 27th. Members especially enjoy their meetings at the Terrace w ith m em b er-resid en ts S y lv ia M cD an iel, Mary Goheen, and Kay Anderson. And now, M arch brings another month of activities to the Terrace. The highlight for some, Irish and not, will be the St. Patrick’s C elebration. The Willow Creek Valley swells with the return of friends and family for the w eekend. And residents of Willow Creek Terrace view that weekend as a great time for some added v isitin g and an im p o rtan t tim e, eco n o m ically , for the Heppner community, so they will be among those wearin’ the green!
