Heppner JV boys win two By Rick Paullus The H ep p n er Mustang JV boys won two hom e gam es o v er the w eek en d , b eatin g The Enterprise Outlaws, 51-37, on Friday, and the Elgin Huskies, 39-33, on Saturday. The Mustangs, now 13-3 on the year, will be at Union on Friday, Feb. 2, at home on Saturday, Feb. 3 against W eston-M cEw en, and at Irrigon on Tuesday, Feb. 6. The Mustangs took a 13-6 lead over the Outlaws after one and still led 19-13 at the half, before pulling away in the second half. Sam Kin and Chris Lien each had seven points in the second half as they increased their lead to 37-28 after three, and extended it to the 14-point win. King finished with nine p o in ts to lead the Mustangs, with Lien adding seven, and Braden Britt and Bryan Holland each adding six points. Sean M urray had fo u r p o in ts in the first quarter against the Huskies, but the Mustangs trailed 13- 10 a fte r one. L ien and Holland each had six points in the second quarter as they took a 24-19 lead at the half. The Mustangs outscored the Huskies, 8-2, in the third to increase their lead to 32-21, and they held on through the fourth to take the win. Lien hit three three- pointers for nine points, with Murray adding seven points. Britt and Holland each added six points. Blue Mountain Conference Dual Championships held in Elgin By Larry Palmer The H eppner w restlin g team tra v e led through the ice and fog to co m p ete in the Blue M o u n tain L eague Dual Championships. This was to decide the top dual team in the league co n sistin g of Elgin/Im bler, Enterprise, Irrig o n , U n io n /N o rth Powder, and the Heppner Mustangs. The host for this year was Elgin/Im bler in Elgin. The Mustangs’ first encounter on the mats were the Outlaws of Enterprise. Due to lack of wrestlers in the lower weights (103,119, 135, and 152) and upper weights (171, 189, 215, and 285) Heppner had to forfeit the scores in these weights. F irst up for the M u stan g s w as T yler Robinson (125) who was pinned in the first period. Then Dillion Lutcher (130) struggled into the second p erio d but w as pin n ed . C hance Day (140) cam e through for the M ustangs with a pin in the second period and six points. Tomás Elguezabal (145) scored six points by forfeit in his weight class. F in ally up for H ep p n er was S p en cer Palmer (160) who gave a valiant effort but could not avoid the pin in the first period. The final score was Heppner 12, Enterprise 30. Heppner then took on Irrigon in th eir final c o n test. O ne again the Mustangs gave away points in the u p p er and low er weight classes. Tyler Robinson and Dillion Lutcher were both pinned in the first. Chance Day won by fo rfeit and scored six points. Tomás Elguezabal faired no better and was pinned in the first. The last Mustang to wrestle for the meet was Spencer Palm er w ho m ade it the second period before being pinned. t
