Kilkenny hit seven of 10 shots and six of nine free throws for 20 points and had 17 reb o u n d s, w hile Van Cleave hit 10 of 15 shots for 20 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Britt had seven points and eight rebounds. Kenny had six assists and three steals; McCabe had four steals and three assists; Quinn Peck had three steals and two assists; Farrens had four assists; and Bailey had two assists. The Mustangs hit 26 of 48 shots for 54 percent and outrebounded the Tigers 41 -18, but had 34 turnovers, and were outshot at the free throw line, 20-45 to 7-12. Cardinals defeat Cougars The lone Cardinals’ b o y s ’ v arsity knew the challenge they faced when Echo visited on Jan. 17 and it w as to co n tro l the Cougar’s post game. Rising to the challenge, the Cards did an admirable job keeping Echo at bay, winning the game 68-47. lone took at 12-4 first-quarter lead and added a 21 -point second quarter to take a 33-16 lead to the locker room at the half. Echo fought hard in the second half playing the Cards almost evenly in the third quarter and drawing to within 10 p o in ts in the fo u rth . H ow ever, the C ard in als charged on, outscoring the Cougars 21-16 in the final period to take the win. “We went into this game knowing we had to control Echo’s post game,” said Coach Dennis Stefani. “I felt we did a good job of doing this. Dan Long, Nik Kamp, Kip Krebs and John Walton all had strong games for us taking care o f the middle.” K elly T hom pson was the te a m ’s lead in g scorer with 18 points. Tony Bolin and Kamp were also in double figures with ten each. The Cardinals were dominating on the boards holding a 40-26 rebounding advantage. Kamp led the way w ith nine b oards assisted by Tyler Brown and Long with eight each, olin paced the team with five assists and four steals. The Cardinals made 28 shots of 56 tries from the field for a solid 50 percent shooting average. Echo was 21 of 52 for 40 percent.
