She then advised she didn’t need to help that everything was OK. -B PD receiv ed a rep o rt about a possible trespass involving kids going into a house that the owner moved out recently. Subjects were given permission to remove items from that residence. -BPD arrested Dean Laroy Taten, 40, for assault IV-DV Felony. -IA assisted a female who was c o n sc io u s but had trouble breathing. Subject has congested heart failure, but she had no chest pains. Subject was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital. Boardman Ambulance was requested for mutual aid. Nov. 28: -MCSO received a report that Hermiston PD arrested a subject on an IJC warrant for failing to appear for driving while suspended. -MCSO received a call from a female reporting a male assaulting a fem ale in a parking lot. Citizen Review Board announces Blue Ribbon Awards The Morrow County Citizen Review Board has announced the winners of the 2005 Blue R ibbon Award. The recipients are Mike and Angie Smith and Sherree Mahoney. The Blue R ibbon A w ards w ere presented on Dec. 5 at the DHS Conference Room in Boardman; The Blue Ribbon Award is presented each year to community members who are tru ly d e d icated to to u ch in g the lives o f children. The first recipient is M ike and A ngie: Sm ith. Mike and Angie Smith have been foster parents for 8 years. Mike and Angie have had 29 children in their home with a range o f physical, medical and social needs. Mike and Angie have great advocating skills and ensure that the children receive the appropriate services. Mike an A ngie work with the biological parents to keep them in fo rm ed , m entor biological parents, and have icebreaker meetings with the biological parents. Mike and Angie are also adopted parents who ensure that the siblings keep in contact with each other. Mike and Angie continue to seek additional training, participate on the foster care panel and is the chair for the m onthly fo ste r parent support group. The second recipient is Sherree Mahoney. As of Jan u ary 2005, S herree Mahoney has been on the Citizen Review Board for 20 years. This has required Sherree to drive in from a co u n try ranch, th ro u g h H eppner, and on to Boardman for each meeting of the CRB. It would be easy to make excuses that it is just too far; but I have never heard Sherree com plain. S h erree is a d e d icated member of the board and makes positive and insightful M-C.t.S. Subject had not been seen since. -BFD assisted a vehicle fire on 163 1-84 eastbound. Nov. 29: -MCSO received a rep o rt th at C h risto p h e r Bennett, 41, was lodged at UCJ on a P&P Detention. -MCSO received a report about a trespass involving two males. Both subjects were advised not to return or they would be arrested. -MCSO received a report that a juvenile male was issued a citation for failure to obey tra ffic co n tro l device. -MCSO received a report that Larry Keith Estle, 63, was issued a citation for failure to renew registration. case m I K a w a sa k i i n i t h f g o o d tu rf» * ro ll co n trib u tio n s during the rev iew s. (She serv es skillfully as the: chairman as needed.) Sherree was a CASA volunteer for 6 1/2 years, (This was during the time she was serving on the CRB.) She show ed ex trem e dedication, always putting h er com m itm en t to the children ahead of her own personal plans. S h erree, and her husband Bob, have been very active w ith the N ational H igh School R odeo Program. Sherree served on the scholarship committee for many years. During this time, Sherree and Bob have hosted 28 young people, having them stay 3 months at a time in their home. They have provided summer work for these children and have encouraged them in their love and participation in rodeo events. This was a commitment of time, and money, and an outreach of love and support that goes way beyond what could be expected of a very active set of parents and grandparents. They have 3 children of their own and 7 grandchildren. Sherree has a long list o f in v o lv em en ts, including Sunday School Teacher, V acation B ible School Teacher, and Room Mother Volunteer. She is also one of the first to su p p o rt: any organization that she has jo in e d as a lead er, or a worker behind the scenes. M ost recen tly , S herree joined with another local m o th er to o rg an ize the “Freedom March.” The Citizen Review board is a division of the Oregon Judicial Department made of local volunteers to review cases of children in substitute care. The Citizen Review Board was established in 1985 to ensure the citizenry in d ep en d en tly o f the D ep artm en t o f H um an Services and -the Oregon Youth Authority conducted reviews. Currently there are 80 review boards serving 33 out of Oregon’s 36 counties. The mission of the Citizen Review Board states that citizens will shape public policy and actively promote conditions to ensure every child lives in a safe, secure, healthy, permanent home, p re serv in g fa m ilies whenever possible.
