During the month of N ovem ber, ch ild re n at Heppner Head Start have been participating in the RIF program (R ead in g is Fundamental). Classroom staff say they have p lan n ed fun, literacy based activities, w here p a re n ts and community members were invited to participate. On November 10, fifth and sixth g rad ers from H ep p n er E lem entary read to the children. On November 23, Heppner City M ayor Tim VanCleave volunteered his time and read two books to the Head Start class. In conjunction with these activities, the children were given the opportunity to choose a book to have for their own and to take home with them.
