Mayor John Edwards works for Lexington citizens To the Editor: C itiz en s of Lexington: A few months back when the city water well shut off in the middle of the night and continued to blow breakers, who was the person that got up at 1 a.m. and got the well going so you would have water at 7 a.m., and who was the man that made numerous trips to the well at all hours of the day and night to make sure all was going as it should be? That man was the M ayor John Edwards. Did he have to do that? No. But he did... for you. » Who was that man that was digging ditches a lo n g sid e the city maintenance man when the town had broken water pipes and pipes that had to be moved? That man was your Mayor John Edwards. Did he have to do this? No. But he did to help the town. He did this even though he had just had knee replacement surgery. Some of the citizens of Lexington have always been disrespectful at council meetings; it is under Mayor E d w ard s that The Community Input for the b e tte rm e n t o f the tow n section has been put on the agenda. When at a public g o v ern in g tow n co u n cil m eeting, the C om m unist F ascist degrading o f the United States of America and its government should not be tolerated. If one does not believe in the American w ays and they live in A m erica, th ese feelin g s should not be brought up in at th is type o f p u b lic meeting. This only brings up unwarranted discussions of the public audience, and they need to be asked to leave for the betterment of the council meeting and I for one do not want to hear that at my town council meetings. I do not know about the rest of the community but I, for one, live on a budget. I do not have endless pockets of money to spend on loan fees. Why did we need a $96,000 loan when we didn’t have anything to apply it to? That is just a waste. A few fast thoughts to end this with: If Mayor Jo h n E d w ard s does not represent the town in an appropriate manner as Mr. Charlie Sumner stated in his petition, why has he been asked back to said meetings and to be on committees? M ayor E dw ards d o e sn ’t drive town vehicles all over the town for his personal use, and then gas them up with tow n m oney. M ayor Edwards made sure that the town had a legal title to a fire truck that was at least five to seven years in the making. Do you think you could do more or would do more? M aybe... Maybe not. (s) Lori McCabe Lexington Teacher seeks Mini Page for students To the Editor: A valuable learning tool often finds its way into the recycle box or the wood stove on Wednesday of each w eek. The “ ‘M ini Page” from the East Oregonian is a great reso u rce for my Reading class. If I have 15- 20 copies, I am able to use the newspaper page with my stu d en ts as p art o f our reading curriculum. So... ifG T readers in Heppner would be willing to drop the M ini Page by H ep p n er E lem en tary or downtown at the Heppner TV Office, and lone readers put them in my newspaper mailbox at 210 Third Street, that would be very helpful. I appreciate all the assistance.
