The theme, “Morrow Coun ty, from the River to the Mountains” opens up all kinds of opportunities to win the sweepstakes award. “North Mor row has the river and south Morrow the mountains,” said a Morrow County Fair and Rodeo spokesperson. “Together the county offers great outdoor experiences and the chance to experience all kinds of adventure and history.” Organizations, individuals, groups, and families, with cars, bicycles, floats, and, of course, horses, are invit ed to enter. HOBY is a seminar that takes leaders from many Oregon towns and cities and puts them in a unique learning experience. These seminars happen all over the world. Actor Hugh O ’Brian e stab lish ed HOBY after returning from A frica in 1958 inspired by his visit w ith h u m a n ita ria n , Dr. Albert Schweitzer. Later that year, while portraying the legendary lawman, Wyatt Earp, on television, O ’Brian decided to make his own contribution to society by establishing HOBY. Since that tim e, H OBY has motivated tens of thousands of young people to realize their leadership potential by conducting annual seminars on a variety o f subjects w hich focue around the them e o f “ M o tiv atin g T o m o rro w ’s L eaders Today.” “What I got out of this seminar was that my dreams and goals can happen w ith hard w ork and dedication,” said Mahaley. “I can also help others and my co m m u n ity w ith my leadership skills. Not only was HOBY a great learning experience for me, but I also met a lot of amazing people that made a difference in my life,” she said. “The last day o f HOBY was sad ,” added Mahaley, “ but there was also a m ajor highlight. Hugh O ’B rien , the man w ho created HOBY and an actor who played in the series “Wyatt Earp”, talked to us from cell phone. It was really neat.
