The event was held at the Hood River Elks Lodge, with 10 teams from N.E District Lodges eligible to participate Claim ing first place in three cate gories was Heppner’s Exalt ed Ruler Tony Clement, tak ing Best Exalted Ruler, Most Impressive Performance and Best Eleventh Hour Salute Other officers claim ing honors were: Lindsay Kincaid, Leading Knight- third place; Colin Anderson, Loyal Knight- fourth place; M arc O rem , L ectu rin g Knight- seventh place; Josh Coiner, Esquire- third place; Wade Smith, Chaplain- sec ond place; Shad Jeffreys, In ner Guard- fifth place; and Tom Wolff, Candidate- first place The Heppner team, judged as a whole, took sec ond place overall Hood Riv er claimed first place in the team competition. Tom W olff and Roger Mortimore were the coaches for this year’s team, with special coaching advice from Carl Lino, o f John Day, Susan Southworth, with her mother, Rosemary Southworth. who has been a national Elks Ritual C ontest judge and National Ritual Committee member The Heppner team spent many h o u rs in re h e arsa l, having each m em ber m em orize th eir respective parts.
