W hen you and 1 left Fort C a m p b e ll, K e n tu c k y , a number of years ago, you were already qualified to be a judge. You had tried some of the most difficult crim inal cases I had ev er seen in the m ilitary - murder, drug dealing, larceny, em bezzlem ent - and you had better success than anyone on the staff. The Teleflora M o n e t’s G arden B ouquet To the Editor: 1 am writing in support o f Bill Jones for Sixth Judicial District Circuit Court Judge. Bill has an extensive and varied legal background. No, Bill was not “bom and raised in Um atilla County” , but he and his wife June have chosen to live here and they both have c o n tr ib u te d a lo t to th e community. B ill f ile d fo r th is position in the fall o f 2003. Then R udy M urgo and Dan Hill got together on the last day to file and M urgo w ithdrew and Hill simultaneously filed in his p lace. Bill was appointed an assistant federal m ag istrate on tw o different military installations w here he heard and decided municipal court cases involving civilians and dependents. I k n o w B ill to be absolutely fair and impartial. W ith his life experiences and 26 year legal career, I know he is th e m o st q u a lif ie d candidate for Judge. Please join me in electing Bill Jones to the ben ch in the S ix th Judicial District. (s) Kristin Lindberg Pendleton Hills surpasses others To the Editor: Dan Hill is running for the p o sitio n o f C irc u it C o u rt Judge. I have know n Dan for over 20 years, first m eeting him when he was the courteous kid schlepping c u sto m e rs’ bags at the old PGG hardware sto re in H erm isto n . A fter graduating from Oregon State U n iv e r s ity in 1983 a n d Willamette University in 1986, becoming a legislative aid and a s tin t in th e A rm y, D an returned to Herm iston where he has been in private practice ever since. N ot only has he been successful in the private s e c to r, b u t D an h a s a ls o served as m unicipal judge, prosecutor, circuit judge pro- tem. and lieutenant colonel in the Oregon National Guard. I h a v e h a d th e opportunity to work with Dan on several occasions and have always been impressed that he never loses sight o f hum an beings in the c o m p licated tangle o f laws and statutes and is able to ju d g e the m erits of any situation w ith com m on sense and an impartial eye. D a n ’s im p e c c a b le character and experience far surpass the other candidates ru nning fo r C irc u it C o u rt Judge; so, w hen you fill out your ballot, please join me in voting for Dan Hill. (s) Kent M adison Echo Hill fair minded Choose Hill To the Editor: To the Editor: I write this letter in my personal capacity in support of the circuit court candidate, Daniel J. Hill. I am a senior trial a tto rn e y fo r C ity C o u n ty In s u r a n c e S e r v ic e s , a n d defend cities, counties and com m unity colleges all over the state o f O regon in both federal and state courts. My practice extends to all com ers o f the state. I have had an opportunity to practice before and understand the value o f a w e ll- q u a lif ie d j u d ic ia r y throughout this state. I am also a colonel in the O regon A rm y N ational G uard and the state ju d g e a d v o c a te fo r the sta te o f O regon. I was appointed to this positio n by G o v e rn o r Kitzhaber in August 2001. My experience with Dan Hill goes back to 1987 when he joined o u r s ta f f ju d g e a d v o c a te section as a m ilitary lawyer. D a n a n d I h a v e w o rk e d together for the past 17 years, often taking opposite sides in v a r io u s m ilita r y j u s t i c e proceedings. I have found Dan to b e f a ir - m in d e d a n d extremely hardworking, with a k e e n a b ility to d e v e lo p system s and procedures to im prove the ju stice system . J u s tic e o n ly w in s w h e n litigants feel they have been given a fair chance to present their case, and Dan has always so u g h t ju s tic e . D an has recently worked on a complete overhaul to the O regon Code o f M ilitary Justice that has b e e n s u b m itte d to th e legislative counsel for action by the 2005 Oregon Legislature. His devotion to soldiers and airmen through many hours of personal sacrifice for their benefit has gained him the respect o f all. It is not my practice to write letters to the editor, but judicial candidates are often u n k n o w n to v o te rs. Y our readers should know that they will not be unhappy in selecting Dan Hill as their next circuit court Judge. (s) Gerald L. W arren Salem My choice for Circuit Judge is Dan Hill. H e’s my choice because: -H e h a s a p ro v e n tra c k r e c o r d a s j u d g e , • prosecutor and attorney. -H e has proven his care, concern and commitment to our community. -H e has show n his com m itm ent to our children, our future, in countless ways. The O re g o n S u p rem e C o u rt has confidence in Dan Hill. That court appointed him circuit judge, pro tern, twice now, and in that capacity he has been a half-tim e circu it ju d g e for nearly three years. I have confidence in Dan Hill. So can you - please m ake him your choice for circuit judge for U m a tilla a n d M o rro w counties. (s) Eugene F. Something th at is really a sham e fo r tourists to see is the very small area allotted to the m emory of people who gave their lives for this country. In fact, it is so small that chairs have to be placed out in the roadw ay to se a t p e o p le a tte n d in g the annual ceremony honoring our w ar dead. C onnected to this memorial by a foot bridge is a v e ry la r g e , b e a u tif u lly landscaped area, w here sod has been laid and trees planted; where sidewalks, an irrigation system, and street lights have been installed. T his area is dedicated to honoring a few pieces of junk farm machinery. For some reason this picture does not seem to be quite right. I don’t know how many residents were asked for their input on the theme for this park, but 1 wasn’t one o f them. H ad I been, I w ould have opted for an expansion of the memorial honoring those who died defending our freedom.
