The M ustangs, 4-1 in C B C and 13-1-1 overall, are tentatively scheduled to play the defending state champion Regis Rams on Saturday, May 1 in T h e D a lle s in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m„ before facing Stanfield in Stanfield in a key C B C game on Tuesday, M ay 4 at 4:30 p.m. T he M ustangs got a run in the first w hen C huy E lguezabal w alked, w ent to third w hen Jode Coil reached on an error and scored on a Josh Gutierrez sac fly. T he R ockets led 3-1 going into the top o f the third when the M ustangs m ounted a rally. Elguezabal led off with a walk and went to third when Kory Paullus reached on an e rro r w ith tw o o u ts. K iel N aim s had a tw o RBI single, L u k e M u rra y h a d a R B I double and Kyler Lovgren hit a home run to left field to give them a 6-3 lead. T he R ockets got to within 6-5 when the Mustangs added tw o m ore in the sixth ./when Murray singled, Lovgren and C ody W alton w alked, Elguezabal had a RBI single and Coil hit a sac fly to score Lovgren to m ake it 8-5. The M ustangs added two more in the seventh when Paullus led o ff with a double, N a im s s in g le d a n d sto le second, M urray had a RBI single, N ick C hristm an was intentionally walked and when the Rockets tried to pick him off o f first, Naims came home to m ake it 10-5. T he R ockets got to within 10-7 in the bottom half and had tw o on but the rally w as ended on a ground ball back to Elguezabal who threw to first. Christman went three innings, with Gutierrez going two innings in relief giving up two hits and no earned runs to pick up the win. E lguezabal pitched the final two innings to pick up the save. Murray went three for four w ith a double, tw o RBI and scored twice. Naims went two for four with two RBI and scored tw ice. L ovgren had a homerun, two RBI and scored tw ice. T he P rospectors broke open a close game with seven mas in the seventh inning to take a 14-2 win in the first gam e. The M ustangs, now 5 and 3, have a home game with Riverside on Thursday, April 2 9 , b e fo re ta k in g on th e Hermiston Frosh on Monday, M ay 10. In the first gam e, the Mustangs trailed 1 -0, but in the second, Sloan Keithley led off w ith a single, stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored as R obbie Sm ith reached on an error. Kody Lovgren singled and Q uinn Peck reached on a fielder’s c h o ic e to s c o re T r a v is Eubanks who was running for Smith. T h e y tie d in th e seventh when Riley Wight was hit by a pitch, went to third as Smith reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Hanson. The M ustangs won it in the eighth when Peck led off with a single, Hollis reached on a b u n t s in g le a n d B a sile doubled to the fence to score Peck with the winning run. Keithley picked up the win in relief of Peck going three innings allow ing no runs on one hit and striking out three. Basile w ent four for five with two doubles and two RBI. The Tigerseots scored a ra n in the third, but the M ustangs got it back in the fourth w hen K ory P aullus singled and eventually scored on a K yler Lovgren sac fly. ODFW holds open-house to discuss hunting season The O re g o n D e p a r tm e n t o f F is h a n d W ildlife will be holding an o p e n - h o u s e m e e tin g on Tuesday, M ay 4 from 3 to 7 p.m . at the H eppner O D FW office. T he purpose o f the meeting is to discuss the 2004 h u n tin g season ta g rec o m m e n d a tio n s and the 2005 season proposals. Proposed changes for this year include reduction of deer tags for several o f the area d e e r h u n ts , a n d f u r th e r reduction o f antlerless and e ith e r-s e x e lk tag s in the Heppner Unit. Both proposed re d u c tio n s are a resu lt o f continued poor calf and fawn s u r v iv a l.
