Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, October 8, 2003 By Rick Paullus T he H eppner C olts built a big first-half lead and coasted through the second halfbeating Boardman 32-6 in Boardman on Thursday, Sept. 25. T he w in im proved the Colts record to 2 and 0 on the year and they will have a home game against E.O. Machine o f H erm isto n on W ednesday, O ct. 8 at 6 p.m. A f te r h o ld in g B o a rd m a n o n th e ir f ir s t possession, the Colts w asted little tim e in getting on the scoreboard as C hance Day ran for seven, but a loss on the next play m ade it third dow n and long. Brent Eckman then hit Bryan H olland for a 60- yard touchdown to make it 6- 0, as the kick w as no good. T he d e fe n se a g a in held Boardman, as good plays by H o lla n d , J a re d H uddleston, and W acy Coil e n d e d th e ir d r iv e . J a k e G regory then took o ff on a 45-yard run for a touchdow n to m ake it 12-0 as the kick was again no good. The Colts got the ball back and a run by Eckm an was good for 25 yards and put the ball deep in Boardm an territory, but a fum ble ended the drive. After taking over on dow ns, H uddleston m ade a diving catch o f a pass from Eckm an, and it was good for a 20-yard gain to the five-yard line. Coil took it in from there to m ake it 18-0. Boardman came back to score their only touchdown, but the Colts answered with a 60-yard run by H olland for a touchdow n as the first h alf c a m e to a c lo s e . R u d y Ramirez kicked the extra point to m ake it 26-6 at the half. The C olts scored on their first possession o f the second halfas Devin Robinson ran for a 27-yard gain and Coil broke a tackle and went in from 37 yards out for the to u c h d o w n . T he run w as stopped short but the Colts led 32-6. The rest o f the h a lf both teams moved the ball, but n e ith e r tea m w as a b le to score. Willie Gentry gained 40 yards on a run to get into Boardm an territory, but they w ere h e ld on d o w n s and H u d d le s to n r e c o v e r e d a Boardm an fumble inside the ten, but the Colts returned the favor with a fumble. The first tw o gam es, the Cardinals lacked net play and had som e difficulty with passing. The third game, lone began to rise to the challenge and the score w as tight m ost o f the m atch until C ondon scored five consecutive points w hen both team s were tied at 20 . The Ponies, now 4 and 0 on the year, will be at W eston on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. T he P onies started q u ic k ly as M a tt M cC ab e returned the opening kick-off 85 yards for a touchdow n, then hit Lane Bailey in the end z o n e fo r th e tw o - p o in t conversion. The rest o f the first half neither team was able to score and the Ponies clung to the 8- 0 lead. On the Ponies first d riv e o f the se c o n d half, Spencer Palm er ran for 10 yards then broke free, made a good move on the sideline and w e n t 4 0 y a rd s fo r a to u ch d o w n .
