Niki Sullivan, a senior fro m lo n e s tu d y in g co m m unications, has been nam ed edito r-in -ch ief o f the new spaper. She has w orked at the new spaper for the past two years, starting as a w riter for the entertainm ent section before m oving to the student governm ent beat. L ast fall, Sullivan w as nam ed higher education editor before being prom oted to m anaging editor o f the new spaper this spring. The competition drew m ore than 2,700 entries in 45 categ o ries for print, radio, television, and online collegiate journalism. E a rlier this m onth, S P J a w a r d e d T h e D a ily Barom eter the best all-around daily student newspaper in the region including papers in Washington, Idaho, Montana, A la s k a a n d O re g o n . T he C a rd in a l g irls re c e iv e d th re e first p lac e finishes from Diana McElligott in the 100m dash w ith a tim e o f 13.00, the 200m dash with a tim e o f 27.52, and in the 400m dash with a time o f 1:01. A shley G ram s had a big day also with a first place finish in the 100m hurdles with a time o f 19.49. She also won the 300m hurdles with a time o f5 4 .7 5 . N a ta lie M cE llig o tt a ls o h a d tw o firs t p la c e finishes. She won the long ju m p w ith a ju m p o f 14 feet 11 inches and the Triple Jump w ith a ju m p o f 31 feet. She also placed second in the high ju m p w ith a ju m p o f 4 feet 8 inches. Kim M orris finished third in the 800m with a tim e o f 3:06. M orris also finished fourth in the jav elin w ith a throw o f 73 feet 7 inches. Eva Chitty placed sixth in the long jum p with a jum p o f 12 feet 9 inches. The 4x 100 relay team o f C h itty , G ra m s , D ia n a M c E llig o tt a n d N a ta lie McElligott finished first with a tim e o f 53.51. For the b o y s’ team , Andrew Rietmann led in first place ribbons with a first in the 100m dash w ith a tim e o f 11.43 and in the 200m dash w ith a time o f24.32. Rietmann also placed third in the discus w ith a throw o f 104 feet 9 inches. Cayle Krebs finished first in the shot put with a thro»f o f 41 feet 5 inches. He also took second in the discus with a throw o f 111 feet 1 inch. Tyler Brown finished first in the javelin with a throw o f 139 feet 6 inches. M ike Radie had tw o second place finishes. The first was in the 100m dash w ith a tim e o f 11.87 and the second in the 200m dash with a time o f 24.69. Dan Satterly finished second in the triple jum p with a ju m p o f3 2 feet 10 inches. Til Tullis placed fifth in the 110m hurdles with a tim e o f 19.79. C ody B ergstrom finished fifth in the 300m hurdles w ith a tim e o f 49.93. Carl Morgan finished fourth in the discus w ith a throw o f 98 feet. Billy Ross finished fourth in the triple jum p with a jum p o f 31 feet 9 inches. Jam es Acock finished fifth in the triple jum p with a jum p o f 28 feet 2 inches. T he 4 x 1 00m rela y team o f Radie, C hristm an, Krebs and Rietmann finished first w ith a time o f 46.22.
