Mustangs sweep Huskies, 8-2 and 2-1 By Rick Paullus T he H ep p n er M us tangs sw ept a d oubleheader from the S herm an C ounty H uskies, 8-2 and 2-1 on Fri day, April 11, in M oro in non league baseball to im prove to 6 and 3 on the year. The M us tangs have a non-league dou b leh ead er at hom e ag ain st N yssa on Friday, A pril 18, at 1 p.m . before beginning C o lumbia Basin conference play at hom e on Tuesday, April 22, a g a in s t th e s ix th - r a n k e d Stanfield Tigers. T he M ustangs took an early 1 -0 lead in the first gam e when Chuy Elguezabal reached on an error and even tually scored on a Brad Adam s’ sacrifice fly. T he M ustangs added another run in the third on a tw o-out hom e run by Adams. Billy G ates hit a solo hom e run in the fourth before the M ustangs broke the game open in the fifth with four runs. Kyler Lovgren singled, Adams hit his second hom e run o f the gam e, Luke M urray singled and scored on G ates’ hard sin gle to left that got by the left fielder, and Donald Adams had an RBI single. T he H uskies scored twice in the sixth, but the Mus tangs added another run in sev enth w hen Brad A dam s sin gled and went to third on Cody W alton’s bunt single, then scored on a G ates’ sacrifice fly. The M ustangs, now 6 an d 2, p lay at W esto n - M cE w en on M onday, April 21, at 4 p.m . T he M ustangs broke open a scoreless gam e one in the fourth when Josh Gutierrez walked, stole second, went to third on an error and scored on a passed ball. Kiel N aim s then hit a home run to left-cen ter. M atthew Van C leave sin gled, Riley Wight walked and both scored on a single by C ody W alton to m ake it 4-0. T hey added another run in the fifth w hen N aim s w alked and cam e around to score on an error. T he H uskies scored two in the bottom half and had the bases loaded, but the M us tangs w ere able to get out o f the jam and held on for the win. Gutierrez went the dis tance to pick up the win, strik ing out 11, allow ing five hits, no w alks and one earned run.
