C ooley was born in Heppner and later moved with his family to Pendleton. He attended Blue M ountain Com m unity C ollege in P e n d le to n and received a tw o-year associate o f arts transfer degree. He then went to Oregon State University in C o rv a llis , w here he g ra d u a te d w ith a bach elo r o f Cory Cooley science degree in fish and wildlife. He then moved to Hermiston, where he did land surveys on a contract basis. In Heppner, Cooley will be helping work on the “buffer initiative." He will be working with private landowners to make sure there is a proper buffer around river, lakes, streams and other bodies o f water. He said that one goal is to ensure that there is proper vegetation around these areas. “Vegetation helps the soil and shades the water,” said Cooley. Also, the trees and shrubs provide an area for wildlife, as well as provide food for fish. Cooley and his wife of one year are in the process of m oving to H eppner from Hermiston. W hen not w orking, Cooley enjoys golfing, fishing and hunting, and spending time with friends. He and his wife also enjoy singing in a quartet with two of their friends. Cooley says he likes the area and is excited about the job. ? f * f EYE HEALTH and VISION CARE 25th » W YYV Heppner, Champion and Blue ribbons; Emily Unruh, Heppner, Reserve Cham pion and Blue ribbons.
