Club leader Angie Hughes opened the meeting. Next, Jessica Hughes did a presentation on Simmental cattle, Torn Lovgren talked about characteristics of Black Angus and Blair Keithley reported to club members about Salers. Angie Hughes reminded club lamb project members that they need to find a source of 4-H lambs. She also informed steer members about the upcoming Junior Beef Day in Olex on Saturday, April 27. Members then worked on their 4-H record books for the remainder of the meeting. The next meeting will be held Sunday, May 19. Summer jobs available for youth The Department of Transpor tation has summer jobs available for young people who want to work in the outdoors and help keep Oregon clean. Each year ODOT hires about 300 youth statewide to clean up litter along state highways as part of the Youth Litter Patrol pro gram. While the crews primarily pick up litter, other duties may also include graffiti removal and general landscape maintenance. A typical crew includes a crew leader and two or more crew members. Those interested in the serv ing in the Youth Litter Patrol pro gram should register with the nearest local Employment De partment office between now and July 19. Interviews for selected applicants may begin as early as May. Depending on the area. Youth Litter Patrols may work up to 12 weeks this summer. Youth Litter Patrol workers are paid on a per hours basis start ing at $7.27 for crew members and $7.85 for crew leaders. Crew leaders must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver license and good driving record. Crew mem bers must be 18 through 20 years old.
