County Court discusses saving accounting data By Doris Brosnan At the M orrow County Court meeting on Oct. 24, assessor Greg Sweek and accounting supervisor Fawny Miles reported on the need to develop a plan for saving pertinent data still stored on equipment that is no longer used for the new accounting and assessments systems. They also discussed the status o f and access to various other related information already transferred to other systems, and they agreed to pursue available options for coordinating programs. Sweek also reported that state budget difficulties might affect appropriations for county assessment and taxation programs. Information will become available in January. County counsel Bill Hanlon and the court continued discussion o f the north-end dairies and the questions surrounding the building inspections and the issue o f number o f employees allowed to work in the buildings at a given time. Building inspector Brett Cook has the responsibility o f assuring com pliance with the code requirements. A land owner discussed with the court his wish to purchase county property on which part o f his building is located. The court agreed to determine if the property meets the requirem ents o f the public property sale laws. Public works director Burke O'Bnen offered the following road report: The crew has graded Gabbert lane, McElligott, Twenty-one Road, Coalmine to Thom pson Corrals, Sperry Springs, part o f Hardman Ridge, North Fork o f Willow Creek, and Jones Road. They com pleted cattle-guard repair on Sperry Springs, Board Creek and Dee Cox Canyon roads. Presently underway are paint striping, seal coating, ditch work on Bombing Range Road, work at the Lexington shop, cleanup at Cutsforth park, work on delineators on Coalmine Hill and inventory of graveled roads. O’Brien presented to the court the departm ent's need for an additional part-time office assistant position to assist with clerical work. He also requested that the court consider reclassification o f the office support specialist to better reflect an increase in responsibilities. The court agreed to the classification and hiring o f an additional part-time office assistant position, allowing for a temporary hire in the interim. The first perform ance will be Saturday night, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. in Irrigon at the A.C. Houghton Elementary auditorium. Sunday's concert will be in Heppner at 2:30 p.m. at the H eppner Elementary School gym. Ihe fall concerts feature a variety o f classical, folk and sacred music. The 40-m em ber symphony, under the direction o f R. Lee Fnese and assistant conductor, Tony Marks, will perform such pieces as "Scarborough Fair", "Gypsy Committee seeks photos & stories Holiday", and Verdi's "Grand March". The singers will perform two arrangements o f sacred music, including "Be Thou My Vision". The concerts in Irrigon and Heppner are free to the public and are sponsored by the Morrow County Unified Recreation District and the M orrow C ounty Com m ission on Children and Families. Everyone is invited to attend. In recognition o f the Morrow County Courthouse Centennial in 2002, M orrow County and the Centennial Celebration Committee are sending out an invitation to celebrate at com m unity events throughout the year. Morrow County government still occupies the most- photographed courthouse in Oregon listed on the National Register o f Historic Places. To gam er com m unity participation, the Centennial Celebration Committee is soliciting stones about the construction o f the courthouse and its original contents. Anyone with pictures or items tied to the history o f the Courthouse, willing to donate or loan them for display during the Centennial, is invited to contact the Centennial Celebration Com mittee. Members present were Jeff Hunt. Clay Morter, Emily Rietmann. Kristal Temple. Justin Key and leader Anne Morter. M embers elected officers as follows: president - Jeff Hunt; secretary - Emily Rietmann; and reporter - Kristal Temple. Members then discussed the food pyramid and where the lunch fit in on it. Anne Morter brought chips and homemade oatmeal cookies. M em bers made apple juice, carrot sticks, tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.
