Corvalliis, was held at the lleppne i Masonic Cemetery on July 9, 2001. Ms. Elder died on July 5, 2001 at the Tterra Rose Care ( enter at Salem. She was bom on August 3. 1913, at Ritter to Frank and Jennie (Jayne) F.lder. She graduated from l aGrande High Sehool in 1929 at the age of 16. She worked for Sears for a time and then went to Washington. D.C.. to work for the Social Security Vdministration aftei taking a federal government exam, (round 1938 she transferred to the Naval shipyards at Bremerton, WA, and worked there until retirement. She moved to Oregon in 2000 to be near relatives. She enjoyed playing bingo and card games and when she was younger enjoyed bowling and playing golf. She also loved to travel and visited many foreign places. She was preceded in death by six older siblings, John F.lder, Lucille Wilson. George Elder. Shirley Elder. Maurice Elder and Elizabeth Ward. Survivors include three nephews. Bill Elder, Portland, John Elder, Eugene, and Doug V\ ard. Mesa, AZ; and two nieces, Shirley Blake. Salem, and Dorotha Barratt-K necht. Corvallis. Darrell E. Padberg Darrell E. Padberg, 86, of lone, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner. At his request, no service will be held. The family will hold a private memorial service later. Mr. Padberg was bom September 18. 1914, at lone, to Edward "Lee" and Melana "Lana" Wood Padberg. He attended school in lone and Benson High School in Portland. He worked in the Portland shipyards during World War II. Mr. Padberg returned to lone in 1942 to operate the family farm on Rhea Creek near lone which had been homsteaded by his grandfather, Henry' Padberg. Mr. Padberg had been active in farming until the last few years. On March 24, 1940, he married Alvina Casebeer at Heppner. He enjoyed gardening, bowling, hunting and fishing. According to family, he loved talking about his w ife of 61 years; loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings. He was an active member of Willows Grange, a charter member of the lone Lions and a life member of the Oregon Wheat League and Heppner BPOE 358. He served as past exalted ruler of the local Elks lodge, served as trustee for the local lodge for 10 years and seven years at trustee of the Oregon State Elks and filled many vacant Elk positions over the years. Survivors include his wife. Alvina Padberg. at the home; children. Leann Rea of Boardman and Marvin Padberg, on the family farm near lone; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister. Pearl Kruse of Lake Oswego. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arley Padberg; and sisters. Opal Burton and Hazel Devin. Memonal contributions may be made to the Pioneer Memorial Auxiliary. P.O.
