PUBLIC NOTICE involved, you’d have hundreds. The projects like the Fairgrounds, the “Main Street Project,” the RV park, the ballfields and the Farm Museum all took huge commit ments of time by many volunteers. These and the ongoing projects like St. Pat’s Weekend, the pa rades, the rodeos and sports events all happen because enough people care about the community to make them happen. Over the years as part o f the Heppner community, it has been my pleasure to have been a small part in a number of these projects. So having been one o f many, it was truly overwhelming to find myself singled out. Again, thank you to Bill Kuhn for your kind words and the Cham ber and community for this award. It was not ex pected and I didn’t really have a suitable response for the occasion. Being selected as a Person of the Year is certainly a signal event in one’s life and believe me, this honor takes on those proportions for me. It is also a very humbling event, given all the efforts by so many folks to make the commu nity what it is. I really enjoy looking around the community at projects completed. The changes that have occurred over the past 10 or 15 years are truly remarkable. The best part of these changes is how they were accomplished with each reflect ing the work o f many people working together One of the first projects I watched take shape was the hotel project.
