S IX - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, September 13, 2000 Obituaries V irginia Alice Elledge Virginia F.lledge, 69, of Pendleton, died Monday, Septem ber 4, 2000, at her home. A memorial service was held Saturday, September 9, 2000, in the chapel at Bums Mortuary of Pendleton. Disposition was by cremation. She was bom July 9, 1931, at Santa Ana, California. Her par ents were Harvey and Virginia S. Wilson Smith She graduated from Heppner High School in 1949. On November 8, 1984, she married John E. Elledge at Reno, Nevada. The couple lived at Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and The Dalles before coming to Pendleton in 1991. Mrs. Elledge loved horses and cats, sketching and gardening. She was a member o f the Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, John E. Elledge of Pendleton; sons. Royce Neil George of Spo kane, Washington and Paul Snow of Irrigon; daughters, Jeri M cElligott o f lone and Jodi WeeberofDepoe Bay; 11 grand children and one great-grandchild. Bums Mortuary of Hermiston was in charge of arrangements. Norma Ortiz Former Imgon resident Norma Ortiz. 53, of Walla Walla, Wash ington, died Tuesday, September 5.2000. at St. Mary Medical Cen ter. Memorial sen ices were held Sunday, September 10, 2000 at Stokes Landing Senior Center in Imgon. Disposition is to be by cre mation. Mrs. Ortiz was bom July 18, 1947, at Pendleton, to Ralph K. and Patricia Markham Minmck. She had been a resident of Imgon for 26 years prior to moving to Walla Walla last year. She worked at Lamb-Weston in Boardman for 18 years prior to retirement. She loved watching Seattle Seahawks football games and Wheel of Fortune She enjoyed reading and loved her grandchil dren, nieces and nephews. She enjoyed Bingo and also bowled for a number of years. Survivors include daughter, Mary Escobedo of Walla Walla, Washington; son, Michael Ralph Escobedo of Irrigon; her father, Ralph Minmck of Irrigon; sister, Cindy Segura of Imgon; brothers, Ken Minmck of Imgon and Ralph Minmck, Jr. of Warm Springs; two grandchildren and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her mother in 1989 and by sisters, Janice and Laura Key. Charles Tompkins Fund, 1121 SW Salmon, Suite 200, Portland, OR 97205. Jim Smith Jim Smith, 82, of Imgon, died Monday, September 11, 2000 at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston. G raveside service was Wednesday, September 13, 2000 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. He was bom June 27, 19' 8, at Talihina, Oklahoma, to William and Adellia Edmiston Smith. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He and his wife, Mary, were married on June 5, 1976, in Ventura, California. They came to Imgon from Redmond six years ago. Survivors include his wife, Mary of Imgon; sons, Roger, Rocky, Ronnie, Russel and Derek; daughters, Jeanette Roberts, LaVem McMillen, Connie Augus tine, Marilyn Porter, Gina Lovejoy and Kathy Muncie; sisters, Inez White in California and Jossie Shropshire in Oklahoma; numer ous grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Bums Mortuary of Hermiston was in charge of arrangements. Donald J. Ball Donald J. Ball, 72, of lone, died Saturday, September 9, 2000 at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Port land. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 14, 2000 at 2 p.m. at the lone Legion Hall. Concluding service and burial will follow at High View Cemetery at lone. He was born November 11. 1927, at Heppner, to Lewis and Anna Petersen Ball. He grew up at lone and attended lone schools, graduating from lone High School. He was a lifetime resident of lone. On April 1, 1947, he mamed Diane “Lorraine” Sherman, at Heppner. He worked for the Mor row County Road Dept, for 36 years, retiring as Public Works Director in 1993. He was a member of the Heppner Elks Lodge for 30 years and Was a past exalted rtiler. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Tn-County Shnners Club. He was a member of the Oregon Steelheader's Associa tion, John Day River Chapter; a director of the lone TV Co-op. a director of the lone Cemetery District, a member of ICABO and a member of the Morrow County Transportation Committee. Mr. Ball was an avid fisherman, hunter and lone sports fan Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lorraine, of lone; sons. Jay Ball and Ed Sherman, both of Pendleton, Bob Ball of lone and Fred Sherman of Portland; daugh ters, Marsha White of lone and Melanie Harshman of Heppner; brothers, Wayne of Portland and Ellis of Panama City. Florida; seven grandchildren, four step- grandchildren. two great-grand children, and three step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sis ters, Elsie Ball and Betty I oy. OR 97201 Sweeney Mortuary of Heppner is in charge of arrange ments. Charles Tom pkins, 69, of Imgon, died September 5. 2000, at St. Anthony H ospital in Pendleton. The funeral service was held Monday, September 11, 2000 at Burns M ortuary Chapel in Pendleton. Interment will be at Antlers, Oklahoma. He was bom June 3, 1931, in Antlers. He left Antlers to join the Navy, serving from 1948-1950 on a minesweeper in the Pacific. He met and mamed Ilene Cook in Oregon in 1952. He raised five Births children with his wife. He worked in a plywood mill Jared Quin Stanger-a son for nine years in Lebanon and Jared Quin was bom to Marlene spent 34 years as a farmer and and Joseph Stanger of Imgon on rancher in Pilot Rock. She had a blood alcohol level of .09. She was cited and released and also cited for Dnving While Suspended with no insurance. August 8: Boardpian Police Department received report of a female subject receiving a phone call from a woman to go to her residence and check on her. The subject didn't know the woman. The woman's caretaker arrived. -BPD received report of suspicious car m a driveway at a Boardman residence. -MCSO received report of several juveniles behind a residence. They took off. -Heppner Police Department received report of a burglar alarm going off at Bank of Eastern Oregon. -BPD received request for an ambulance at a Boardman residence for a 77 year old male with stomach pain. -MCSO received request for an officer from a woman who said a male subject was at her home wanting his daughter. She had a restraining order out against him. -MCSO received request for a deputy from male in previous entry wanting his daughter -MCSO received a report of sheep out. -MCSO cited a 14-year old in Heppner for Unauthorized Entry' of a Motor Vehicle, and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. -MCSO received report of CD’s stolen from an Irrigon residence. -MCSO arrested Ross Carlyle VanEtta, 19, for Failure to Appear/Assaulting a Public Safety Officer, Carrying a Concealed Weapon. ‘ -MCSO, HPD repeived report of a fight between brothers William Ellis Looney, 25, Hep. was cited for Assault IV. A 17- year-old was cited for Assault III. -MCSO received report of a subject in the lone area drinking and driving. No deputy was in the area at the time. -BPD received report of two adult males trespassing at a Boardman residence. They trampled down the caller's fence. -MCSO received report of a burglary in Irrigon. The door to Stokes Landing Senior Center was kicked down. -Oregon State Police received report of several subjects with an illegal sturgeon in Boardman. -MCSO received report of a 10 year-old bitten by a dog in Imgon. Parent did not wish medical response. A subject was cited for maintaining a dog as a public nuisance In the Service National Guard Pvt. Jacob L. Graff has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky. During the training, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and traditions. Graff is the son of Steven Graff of Imgon and Kathy Graff of Boardman -Imgon Fire Dept, received a report of an illegal bum in Irrigon -MCSO received a report of abandonment/neglect of animals with no food or water. -Hermiston Police Dept, arrested Twyla Kay Johnson, 38, on a Morrow County warrant for Failure to Pay Fine/NegoUatmg a Bad Check. She was lodged at the Umatilla County Jail. -MCSO received a report of a woman that her neighbor told her a male subject was watching her from the bathroom window. Deputies were unable to locate anyone. -MCSO, Boardman Police Dept, received a report of criminal trespass at a Boardman residence. Two 14-year-olds were cited for Criminal Trespass II and Curfew Violation; Craig Michael Workman, 18, and Matthew Lee Wilson, 19, were cited for Criminal Trespass II. Wilson was also cited for Dnving while License Suspended and Driving with No Insurance. -Oregon State Police and Boardman Police Dept, received a report of an audible burglar alarm at Port of Morrow. The alarm company advised to disregard the alarm. -Boardman Police Dept., Medic 2, Boardman Ambulance received a request for an ambulance for a 10-year-old male with an object in his ear. It was a cockroach. The patient was transported to Good Shepherd Community Hospital in Hermiston. -MCSO received a report from a Heppner area woman that she had a buffalo with a yellow ear tag running around on her property. ,-MCSO received a request for a contact from a subject worried about his kids being introduced to child pornography on the Internet. -MCSO received a report of a bike stolen in Irrigon. -Oregon State Police received a report of a pickup pulling a large camper trailer that lost an axle at Patterson Ferry. -MCSO deputy arrested Charles David Ruckman, 29. on a Morrow County Court warrant for Contempt of Court. Bail was set at $87,000. -Boardman Ambulance received a request for an ambulance for a 72-year-old woman with kidney problems. The patient was transported to Good Shepherd Community Hospital in Hermiston. -MCSO, Boardman Police Dept, received a report of a calf out on 1-84. -MCSO received a report of dogs at large in Irrigon. -MCSO received a report of a subject in a semi observed throwing out a lit cigarette on I- 84. Oregon State Police requested a deputy to check tor fire. August 10: MCSO received a report of a non-injury motor vehicle accident on Willow Creek Road. -MCSO received a report of a bull buffalo with a yellow tag on Highway 74. The owner was notified that the buffalo was going to be put down because it was destroying fences to get at a cow. -MCSO received a report of an ID stolen from a car in Boardman. -MCSO received a report of 15 horses loose south of Ruggs. -Boardman Police Dept, received a report of smoke. The patient was transported to Good Shepherd Community Hospital in Hermiston. -Imgon ambulance received a report of a woman having a colitis attack. The patient was transported to Good Shepherd Community Hospital in Hermiston. -Heppner Fire Dept., Gilliam County Rural Fire Dept, received a report of a lightning strike that set a field on fire in lone with large structures threatened. -Gilliam County Rural Fire Dept, received two more calls about lightning-caused fires. -Boardman Police Dept, received a report of a male subject riding a four-wheeler in the Outback parking lot. -MCSO, Boardman Police Dept, received a report of cows out at the Port of Morrow. -MCSO, Boardman Fire Dept, received a report of a lightning strike near a residence on the Bombing Range. -MCSO received a report of several spot fires between Arlington and Boardman. -MCSO received a report of a burglar alarm at Huwe's Washboard in Irrigon. The alarm was cancelled. August 11: MCSO received a request for information concerning fires and the location of fire trucks. -MCSO received a report of a semi jack-knifed on Highway 730. The driver was cited for Driving while License Suspended I. -Lane County officer arrested Janie T. Thornton, 34. on a Morrow County Circuit Court warrant for Criminal Non- Support. -Heppner Fire Dept, received a report of a smell of propane in the area of Hill and Chase streets. -MCSO received a report of the lone Bank of Eastern Oregon ATM machine vandalized and the black box with money missing. An unknown amount o f money was taken. -Heppner Police Dept, received a report of an audible alarm at Klamath First Federal bank. A key holder was on the scene and the alarm was cancelled. -Boardman Police Dept, received a report of an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. -MCSO received a report of juveniles trespassing on property at Deadman Hill Loop. MCSO. Boardman Police Dept, received a report of a subject with chest pains and having trouble breathing at Dodge City. A doctor at the scene advised him to go by private vehicle to the hospital. -MCSO received a request for a deputy concerning a speeding vehicle. -MCSO received a report of smoke on 1-84 from people looking for a bull near lone. -US Forest Service at Tupper received a request for numbers for Tapper Guard Station to report smoke in the Black Mountain area. -Heppner Police Dept, received a report of a burglar alarm at Heppner Elementary School. A teacher had been in the building. -MCSO received a report from a female that her mother was verbally abusive toward her and her children. It was an on-going problem. -MCSO received a report of a fire on the Bombing Range. A deputy was unable to locate the fire. -MCSO received additional reports of a fire on the Bombing Range. A deputy was unable to locate the fire. -MCSO, Boardman Police Dept, received a report from a Boardman woman that her boyfriend wouldn't let her take the kids and he hit her. -MCSO received a report of a small fire on the Bombing Range but it had been knocked down. -MCSO received a report of a verbal confrontation between a man and a woman in lone over a combine being moved. -Boardman Police Dept, received a report of a car blocking the road at Wilson Road Trailer Court. -MCSO received a report of sheep out on Wilson Road. -MCSO, Boardman Police Dept, received a request for a deputy. A woman said her son received a car title in exchange for doing a favor for an individual. The plate was returned to the Centralia Police Dept. -MCSO received a request for a deputy for a subject who said a male opened his door and was looking for his horse. The subject was intoxicated. August 12: MCSO deputy cited Dioncio Villarreal of Pasco, WA., for Possession of Less than One Oz. of Marijuana. -MCSO received a report of a light post down at Irrigon Sentry Market. -MCSO received a report of a suspicious vehicle on Highway 207. The subject said he was sleeping and couldn't make it into Lexington. -Boardman Police Dept, received a report of a cat abandoned in a room at Riverview Motel. -MCSO received a request for a deputy concerning a neighbor's dog chasing the caller's cat. -Boardman Police Dept, received a report of suspicious activity at Econolodge concerning people who gave a vehicle away. They also dumped a duffle bag into the dumpster at the Nomad. -Boardman Police Dept, received a report of a speeding pickup in Boardman. -MCSO received a report of a break-in at a residence on Highway 74. The caller later said ' to disregard the call. -MCSO received a report from a boy that another boy was hitting him as hard as he could at the grocery store in Irrigon. The boy asked who he was talking to and when told it was 911, he said he called the wrong number and meant to call his mom's work number. - MCSO received a request for a deputy concerning harassing phone calls in Irrigon. -MCSO received a report of a pistol taken from an Irrigon residence. The caller believed it was his step-daughter. -MCSO received a report of a window in a vehicle shot out in Imgon. -Heppner Police Dept, received a report of a suspicious vehicle on Riverside Drive. -Boardman Police Dept, received a report from a male subject that his ex-girlfriend dropped off their baby and left. He didn't think it was okay to drop off a three-month-old baby and leave. -Heppner Police Dept, received a report from a female that someone outside her residence was calling inside. -MCSO received a report of a juvenile male with a flashlight walking towards a trailer at a construction zone. -MCSO received a report of a suspicious vehicle turning off its lights at the Irrigon Sentry Market.
