Obituaries
V irginia Alice Elledge
Virginia F.lledge, 69, of
Pendleton, died Monday, Septem­
ber 4, 2000, at her home.
A memorial service was held
Saturday, September 9, 2000, in
the chapel at Bums Mortuary of
Pendleton. Disposition was by
cremation.
She was bom July 9, 1931, at
Santa Ana, California. Her par­
ents were Harvey and Virginia S.
Wilson Smith
She graduated from Heppner
High School in 1949.
On November 8, 1984, she
married John E. Elledge at Reno,
Nevada. The couple lived at Lake
Tahoe, Nevada, and The Dalles
before coming to Pendleton in
1991.
Mrs. Elledge loved horses and
cats, sketching and gardening.
She was a member o f the
Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband,
John E. Elledge of Pendleton;
sons. Royce Neil George of Spo­
kane, Washington and Paul Snow
of Irrigon; daughters, Jeri
M cElligott o f lone and Jodi
WeeberofDepoe Bay; 11 grand­
children and one great-grandchild.

Former Imgon resident Norma
Ortiz. 53, of Walla Walla, Wash­
ington, died Tuesday, September
5.2000. at St. Mary Medical Cen­
ter.
Memorial sen ices were held
Sunday, September 10, 2000 at
Stokes Landing Senior Center in
Imgon. Disposition is to be by cre­
mation.
Mrs. Ortiz was bom July 18,
1947, at Pendleton, to Ralph K.
and Patricia Markham Minmck.
She had been a resident of Imgon
for 26 years prior to moving to
Walla Walla last year.
She worked at Lamb-Weston
in Boardman for 18 years prior to
retirement.
She loved watching Seattle
Seahawks football games and
Wheel of Fortune She enjoyed
reading and loved her grandchil­
dren, nieces and nephews. She
enjoyed Bingo and also bowled for
a number of years.
Survivors include daughter,
Mary Escobedo of Walla Walla,
Washington; son, Michael Ralph
Escobedo of Irrigon; her father,
Ralph Minmck of Irrigon; sister,
Cindy Segura of Imgon; brothers,
Ken Minmck of Imgon and Ralph
Minmck, Jr. of Warm Springs; two
grandchildren and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her
mother in 1989 and by sisters,
Janice and Laura Key.

Monday, September 11, 2000 at
Good Shepherd Medical Center in
Hermiston.

at Willamette National Cemetery
in Portland.
He was bom June 27, 19' 8, at
Talihina, Oklahoma, to William and
Adellia Edmiston Smith.
He served with the U.S. Army
during World War II.
He and his wife, Mary, were
married on June 5, 1976, in
Ventura, California. They came to
Imgon from Redmond six years
ago.
Survivors include his wife,
Mary of Imgon; sons, Roger,
Rocky, Ronnie, Russel and Derek;
daughters, Jeanette Roberts,
LaVem McMillen, Connie Augus­
tine, Marilyn Porter, Gina Lovejoy
and Kathy Muncie; sisters, Inez
White in California and Jossie
Shropshire in Oklahoma; numer­
ous grandchildren and several
great-grandchildren.

Donald J. Ball, 72, of lone, died
Saturday, September 9, 2000 at
Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Port­
land.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday, September 14, 2000 at
2 p.m. at the lone Legion Hall.
Concluding service and burial will
follow at High View Cemetery at
lone.
He was born November 11.
1927, at Heppner, to Lewis and
Anna Petersen Ball. He grew up
at lone and attended lone schools,
graduating from lone High School.
He was a lifetime resident of
lone.
On April 1, 1947, he mamed
Diane “Lorraine” Sherman, at
Heppner. He worked for the Mor­
row County Road Dept, for 36
years, retiring as Public Works
Director in 1993.
He was a member of the
Heppner Elks Lodge for 30 years
and Was a past exalted rtiler. He
was a member of the Masonic
Lodge and the Tn-County Shnners
Club. He was a member of the
Oregon Steelheader's Associa­
tion, John Day River Chapter; a
director of the lone TV Co-op. a
director of the lone Cemetery
District, a member of ICABO and
a member of the Morrow County
Transportation Committee.
Mr. Ball was an avid fisherman,
hunter and lone sports fan
Survivors include his wife of 53
years, Lorraine, of lone; sons. Jay
Ball and Ed Sherman, both of
Pendleton, Bob Ball of lone and
Fred Sherman of Portland; daugh­
ters, Marsha White of lone and
Melanie Harshman of Heppner;
brothers, Wayne of Portland and
Ellis of Panama City. Florida;
seven grandchildren, four step-
grandchildren. two great-grand­
children, and three step-great­
grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by his parents and sis­
ters, Elsie Ball and Betty I oy.

He was bom June 3, 1931, in
Antlers. He left Antlers to join the
Navy, serving from 1948-1950 on
a minesweeper in the Pacific.
He met and mamed Ilene Cook
in Oregon in 1952. He raised five

residence. The caller believed it
was his step-daughter.

subject that his ex-girlfriend
dropped off their baby and left.

walking towards a trailer at a
