Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday February 2, 2000 - THREE Report cards continuad from paga 1 (16,897 students) and 44 percent in the nation (1,220,130 students). Fifty-four percent of RHS students have a master's degree or higher, better than the state average of 46 percent. They also have more experience, with an average of 16 years of teaching, compared to 14 years statewide, and more years in the district-12 years, compared to 10 statewide. Former Heppner woman wins body building title DeeAnna Raver, Portland, formerly of Heppner, won the lightweight class and overall at the 1999 NGA Northwest Natural Body Building Championships held Sept. 18 in Dallas. OR Raver. 28, has been involved in body building for around a year and has been attending a personal training school in T acoma, WA. Raver commented that body building is one of the most challenging sports and is "90 percent mental". Her exercise regimen includes 1-1/2 hours of aerobic exercise and one hour of weight training six days a week Seventy-five percent of the training is diet, she added. Raver is considering opening a gym in Heppner. Anyone NRCS receives service award The Natural Resources Conservation Service was presented a 25-year Length of Service Award on Jan. 13 for contmued service as a cooperative weather observing station. Cliff Hams accepted the award for NRCS in Heppner Harris has been taking care of the weather equipment at Heppner for the last 18 of the 25 years that the station has been there. Presenting the award was Bruce Bauck. meteorologist in charge of the National Weather Service office in Pendleton. The weather station maintained by the NRCS has provided hourly recorded precipitation observations since October 1974 This information is part of the National Weather Service's volunteer, C ooperative Observation Program that totals nearly 11,000 citizens and institutions nationally. Cooperative weather observers collect and record on a daily basis, precipitation, temperature and in some cases, river readings. The data is used to forecast weather as well as define the climate of the nation. Oregon's cooperative weather observers can be found in all walks of life, according to the NRCS.
