The Mustang girls lost to the Dragons in the first game in overtime, 17-15, and won the second game, 15-11, before falling to Delphian, 15-2, in the last game. The Mustangs have a history in facing off against tough opponents in the first round of the championships. In 1997, they lost the opening round loss to Santiam Christian and in 1998 they lost to Oakridge, both eventual state champs. Delphian eventually fell to St. Mary's, 15- 8, 12-15, 15-9, and St. Mary's lost to Amity, 11-15, 15-10, 15- 13, for the 1999 state championship. The bazaar will feature a visit from Santa and lunch will be served. A $2 admission will be charged at the door, which will go toward youth scholarships. The Artifactory is sponsored by the Willow Valley Service Club. State 1A, 2A VB tourney picks selected Camie Burright Nikki McElligott Casey Ingraham Casey Ingraham, Heppner High School senior, was named first team all tournament at the 2A state volleyball championships and Nikki McElligott and Camie Burright, both lone High School senior, were selected first team all tournament for the 1A state championships held last weekend at Lane Community College at Eugene. The lone Cardinals ended up champions of the 1A division. The Heppner Mustangs received the tournament sportsmanship award. Senior Clint Bellamy made first team as offensive guard and as defensive lineman. Junior Craig Scott also earned two first team picks-as offensive back and defensive back. Junior Blake Knowles was selected as first team defensive end, second team place kicker and second team receiver. Senior Jake Roy was named first team offensive tackle and honorable mention defensive lineman. Senior Michael Schonbachler was named to the first team as defensive linebacker and honorable mention offensive back. Junior Kyle McDaniel was selected as first team offensive center. Junior Ryan Matteson earned two second team selections, as quarterback and defensive back. Senior Josh Hill was picked for the second team as a defensive lineman and received honorable mention offensive tackle. Sophomore Michael McCabe also earned a spot on the second team and honorable mention for linebacker and defensive back, respectively. Junior Joe Papineau was named to the second team as defensive end and sophomore Stefan Matheny, second team defensive back.
