Published: November 3,1999 Affid______________________ PUBLIC NOTICE Dean and Lois Hunt, 1949 The Hunts, 1999 Dean and Lois Hunt of Heppner will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, November 7, from 2-5 p.m. at the Heppner Elks Club. Friends are invited to attend. I ois was 18 years old and Dean, 22, when they were married. They met when Lois was ushering at the theatre in Heppner. They dated for about tw o years off and on and dated steady her senior year. They were engaged in September and married in November of 1949. Following is a oftentimes humorous account, by Lois Hunt, o f their trials and tribulations in "tying the knot." On November 6, 1949, Lois Key packed her clothes, with the help of her mother, and left with De«jn Hunt for one of the greatest adventures, or maybe I should say gambles of their lives. They were going to be married. They felt like they needed to stop in Lexington and say goodbye to Dean's family..When they arrived, Sunday dinner was on the table, so they were persuaded to eat before they began their journey. Finally dinner was over and they were on their way. Much later than they had planned, I might add. In the state of Idaho, all you needed to wed was a blood test. No waiting period. Dean and Lois were aw are of this, so off to Idaho. They arrived in Boise that night too late to do anything but get a couple of hotel rooms and go to bed, but that was easier said than done. Nov. 18. from 8:30 a.m- 4 p.m., and in Boardman on Fri day, Nov. 19, from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Correction A story in last week's Gazette about the resignation of the Mayor of Lexington, incorrectly stated that a citizen of Lexington was upset because his name was not on the ballot of a recently concluded election in the town to fill a v acant town council seat. John Edwards said since the vote was advisory and nonbinding he only wanted to be considered for appointment to the vacant council seat, and did not say he had wanted his name on the ballot. told us, "When I tie a knot, I tie it tight and it stays tied." For our honeymoon, we were going to LA, so we decided to drive a little ways. After all, it was still early, only a little after 8 p.m. Little did we know what we were getting into. A little ways, ha. It was 2 a.m. before we found a place to stay and that place was Well, Nevada. At that time it was see about the rooms, he was told they only had one room available. He informed them that wouldn’t work, that we were not going to be married until the next day. The desk clerk said, "What difference does a day make?" Dean’s answer, "You don't know Lois. She will not go for that." So they had the bridal suite vacant and they let me have it and poor Dean had a very small room with no bathroom facilities. Next morning we were up bright and early. Dean showered in my "bridal suite" and then we were off to get our blood tests, after which we looked for the Methodist Church, where we planned on tying the knot. However, Boise was so strange to us and seemed so large, we gave up on that idea and went to Twin Falls. We found the church there, but the minister was fishing, but would be back late afternoon. We waited all that day for him and when he finally arrived, he agreed to perform the ceremony. However, he informed us that when he performed a ceremony, he thought it should be done right. So, he had his wife play the piano in the sanctuary of the church. We had everything but the congregation. Another thing the Rev. Parrot nothing but a wide place in the road. That ends the story of Dean and Lois' wedding day that happened 50 years ago, except that it might interest you to know (we were not aware of it at the time) we were married on Dean's parents' anniversary. Our first was their 25th. -Lois Hunt St. Patrick's Senior Center Bulletin Board ____ One hundred people were present for the senior meal Oct. 27. Members of the Nazarene and Seventh-day Adventist churches served. Elementary students and teachers made and brought Halloween table decorations and place mats to brighten up the center for Halloween. The nursing home patients and several other seniors came in costumes. Blood pressures were taken before the meal. Soup lunch was served at the center Tuesday and Thursday. Bingo was played Tuesday night. Exercise was held on Tuesday and Thursday, at 10 a.m., cards at 1 p.m. Tuesday and Friday.. Sunday the fund raiser dinner was served from 4-7 p.m. The tacos, burritos and dessert were delicious and enjoyed by a smaller crowd than hoped for. The proceeds were to buy kitchen equipment. The menu for Nov. 10 is fish with tartar sauce, parsley potatoes, pea salad, fruit salad, dilly bread and walnut pie. Members of the Hope, Valby Church will serve. The Senior Board will meet at 1 p.m.. There is still room for a few more on the senior bus going to Fossil Thursday for the Columbia Basin dinner and meeting. The bus departs Heppner at 4 p.m. and will return following the meeting. There will be a Sunday movie Nov. 7 More than 40 children received treats at the Senior Center on Halloween.
