I believe you know who you are since my front bumper and front quarter panel were tom off. I would like you to know that your recklessness and obvious disregard for other's property is going to cost me $500 to pay the insurance deductible to get my car fixed. I also want you to know how unfair it is for me to have to pay for your carelessness. I hope you feel ashamed. (s) Kathleen Greenup Heppner Shocked and saddened by HES windows To the Editor: I heard about the boarding up of the windows at Heppner Elementary so as an "alumni," I decided to drive by and see this for myself. I was shocked, saddened and sick. I am completely amazed that anyone would be O.K. with this. I find it hard to believe that in this day and age that almost everyone would not be aware of all the studies showing the direct link of sunlight to seratonin and its effect on people mentally and physically. Even if you were unaware of the medical and physiological research showing overwhelmingly the effects of "natural light" on human beings, I would think common sense would kick in. Besides the fact that it looks just plain ugly and why would we want our children to have to look at that every day is the fact that it's been shown over and over that people of all Defendants. Hospitals, schools and businesses have put these studies into effect all over the world. I urge everyone, especially parents, to give this a lot of thought and do your own research. Demand the school board and the administrator to make our schools more energy efficient without affecting our children's learning environment in such a negative way. I question why no one on the school board knew about such a drastic measure. Why weren't energy efficient windows with appropriate blinds discussed? I hope everyone who shares these concerns will contact school board members or attend the advisory board meeting scheduled July 8 at 7 p.m at the Heppner High School library. Conklin, who nominated Casey, said the selection criteria is based on academics, leadership and athletic ability. The award is sponsored by Willie Davenport, "a great Olympic athlete," says Conklin. The award is unique in that it's restricted to females and award winners are named at the end of their junior rather than senior year so that they have time to plan for college, says Conklin. Casey will receive a $1,000 scholarship and will be presented her award at a banquet at the Nike Complex in Beaverton with many notable Olympic athletes in attendance.
