A project which has blocked off the windows at HES with insulation to cut down energy costs will be postponed until after the new Morrow County School Superintendent Bruce Anderson is on the job and meetings can be scheduled concerning the issue, said new HES Principal Phyllis Danielson. One parent, Cindy Brosnan said that covering the windows concerned her because in the winter children sometimes leave their homes in the morning in the dark and arrive home after school in the dark. She said that advisory board members, school board members and teachers were not aware of the project before it started. Robert (Butch) and Helen Heideman were high school sweethearts. They met at Connell High School in Connell, Washington. They were married in 1948. Over the next six years they had four children: Loren, Loa, Dana and Debbie. They were members of the Gideon Lutheran Church, Jay-Cees, Grange and school functions. It was a very busy household, indeed. As each child grew and joined Scouting the parents became involved as Scout leaders. Each of the children enjoyed participating in scouting activities for their entire school years. Loren achieved the highest rank as an Eagle Scout. As the neighborhood grew with children, the Heideman household was a constant hub of activity. There was football being played in the backyard, basketball in front of the garage and baseball in the vacant lot next door. In the summer you would find them at the local watering hole swimming, boating and water skiing. The boys played for the town Little League. Loren went on to play high school baseball and was an outstanding all-star first baseman. He also loved playing football and was an all-state award winner in high school. Dana really "shone on the basketball court. It was nothing for him to make 10 or more points a game." He was especially good from the three point line which was only worth two points back then. Loa was always out there in the middle of all the neighborhood ball games and could play just as rough as the boys. Her mam interests were drama, choir and keeping basketball score books. Debbie didn't play many sports but she could sure "give a good cheer with the PEP Club and was a high stepper with the "Dance and Drill" team." One thing was for certain, wherever the children went both parents were right there rooting them on and giving everyone good "fan" support. Loren graduated from Connell High School in 1968. He then graduated from Columbia Basin College with a degree in agronomy. He married his college sweetheart Dell in 1971. They have two children, Deacon and Suzanna. Loren is farming with his brother Dana and Dell is currently self-employed with computer works. Loa graduated from Connell High School in 1970. She became a nurse in 1971 and married David Stevens in 1972. He was in the Air Force and they did some traveling around the world and lived in different places in the states. They have a daughter, Cynda. They later divorced and Loa married Mark Henderson in 1990. Mark added his children Roberta, Claudine and Matthew to the family. Each of these step-children is married and they have produced five "very lively grandchildren." Loa is currently employed as the night shift supervisor at Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston. Mark is self-employed as the "Travelin' Tractor" excavator. Dana graduated from Connell High School in 1971. He then graduated from Billings Automotive School in Billings, Montana. He married Tonya in 1974. They have two children, Aaron and Nathan. Dana is farming with his brother and son Nathan. Tonya is currently employed at Chemical Waste Management in Arlington. Debbie graduated from Connell High School in 1974. She had a daughter named Kan. She married Virgil Morgan in 1977. They added three boys, Kelly, Korey and Karl. Debbie is known as the local "mother" and baby sitter of many of the children who live in lone. Debbie and Virgil can add a new name to their bragging list and that is "grandparent." Kari had a little baby girl on June 13 and named her Sierra Anne. Virgil is a local farmer. Butch and Helen were always dreaming of having their own farm some day. Butch had grown up in farming communities and had worked for many local farmers as a young man. Helen had a business degree and had been working at different secretarial jobs. In 1975 they decided to take a look around eastern Washington and eastern Oregon for a dry land wheat farm to buy. They had been to lone before because they knew Stan Kemp on the Sand Hollow farm that Helen's parents owned. They looked long and hard for a place around Morrow County and found the "Ely" place on Willow Creek and Highway 74. So to say, they "bought the farm" 1976 and called it "Triple H Farms". Butch and Helen, along with Dana, Tonya and family, moved on to the farm. Debbie and Kari followed a few months later to check it out and decided to stay. Loren, Dell and family joined the family business in 1980 when the farm had expanded to include the Cecil property. Loa moved to the area in 1983 with her family. Butch and Helen recently Mary Jane McCarty Sierra Anne Morgan, four days old June 17. retired from farming and the two brothers expanded their farming ground and became partners as "The Heideman Brothers, LLC." lone has become an integral part of the Heideman family. You will find most of the family at all of the lone School sports and activities. The many grandchildren have given the lone school district many hours of blood, sweat and tears over the last several years. Loren and Dell's son Deacon graduated from lone in 1993. He played on the football team and received all-star east honors and was chosen for the Shrine Game, but due to an injury in the all star game he was not able to play in the Shrine game. He was one of the tallest basketball players on the team. He was a member of the track team and still holds the State IA discus throw record. He graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in agriculture business. He married Erin Hansell in June 1998. They currently reside in Pendleton where he is working for PGG and Enn will begin teaching agriculture at Pendleton High School this fall. Suzy graduated from lone in 1997. She played volleyball and was on the state championship team in 1994. She was also on the state championship team for girls basketball in 1996 and won first team all star honors. She also was on the state championship team for girls track in 1997 where she had the winning javelin throw. She is currently attending Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham. As a member of their track team she set many records. She is currently a member of the National Guard Reserves. She is now engaged to Travis Brewster and they plan their wedding for sometime this summer. Loa's daughter Cynda attended lone Grade School for five years continued page 2 MCGG will be CLOSED Monday, July 5th Have a i/appy 4 th ofj ÿuly!
