Sheriff's Report Morrow County Sheriff’s Of fice (MCSO) reports handling the following business: June 6: MCSO deputy cited Miguel Rodnguez, 21, Boardman, for Open Container. MCSO received a report of a man staying on a woman’s prop erty and wouldn’t let her get her van off the property. Heppner Police Dept, received a report of a bike found in Hepp ner. MCSO received a report of people driving without a license. MCSO received a report of a vehicle speeding in Imgon. Boardman Police Dept, re ceived a report o f three dirt bikes on the refuge. Boardman Police Dept, re ceived a report o f a man taking a puppy from a Boardman resi dence. Boardman Police Dept, re ceived a report of a man assaulted by two alleged gang members in Boardman. Boardman Police Dept, re ceived a report of loud music and a lot of cars at a Boardman resi dence. MCSO received a report from a female that she and her boy friend got in an argument and he left her in lone on Gooseberry Road at 5 p.m. He said he was going to pick her up but hadn’t by 10:45 p.m. MCSO deputy, Boardman Po lice Dept, arrested a 17 year old for Assault III, MIP by Consump tion, Criminal Mischief III and four t counts of Harassment. He was released on the condition he would not leave his house unless accom panied by a parent. M CSO , B oardm an Police Dept, arrested Eric Ramirez, 18. for Assault III Boardman Police Dept re ceived a report of a horse on someone else’s property. June 7: MCSO received a re port of cows out on Paul Smith Road in Boardman. MCSO received a report of someone stealing the newspaper in lone. Complainant said she knows who is doing it. MCSO received a request for a deputy concerning previous van dalism at Anson Wright Park. A pager was found at the site of an illegal campfire. MCSO received a report of a dump truck dumping gravel on I- 84. MCSO received a request for a deputy in Imgon concerning a road crew who w eren’t letting homeowners through to their resi dence. MCSO received a report of a semi tanker of anhydrous ammo nia found sitting at an airstrip at Sand Hollow. The owner was found. Oregon State Police received a report of two truckers speeding on 1-84. MCSO, B oardm an Police Dept, received a report of a car squealing tires and going sideways in front of traffic in Imgon. MCSO received a request to deliver a family message. Heppner Police Dept, received a report of a theft at the Heppner pool. Heppner Police Dept, received a report of an audible alarm at Heppner High School. An open door was located and the princi pal contacted. MCSO received a report of five suspiciousjuveniles on a field behind the LP N ursery in Boardman. MCSO received a report of drug paraphernalia found by par ents in Imgon after they told their son to move out. MCSO received a report of a missing lab. June 8: Heppner Police Dept, received a report of a male sub ject looking in windows of cars parked behind Kate’s Pizza and Bucknum’s Tavern. An officer was unable to locate anyone. MCSO, Heppner ambulance received a request for an ambu lance for a woman who awoke shaky, turning blue and having chest pressure. Heppner ambulance received a report of a woman having chest pains. She refused transport and went to Pioneer Memorial Hospi tal by private vehicle. MCSO received a report of someone fishing at the dam. MCSO deputy cited George Adams Gresser, 63, for Failure to Perform Duties of a Driver In volved in an Accident. MCSO received a report from a woman that three dogs attacked her chickens and she shot at them. MCSO received a request for a deputy concerning a theft in Local cowboy at Umatilla rodeo Jerid Penturf Local cowboy, Jerid Penturf, 16, won $185 at the Sage Rider Jackpot Rodeo in Umatilla on June 13. Penturf received second place in bull riding with the bull named Ragin Cajun. Boardman. The woman who re ported the incident said she fol lowed the vehicle into Imgon. MCSO received a request for a deputy concerning a problem. It was a civil matter. Boardman Police Dept, re ceived a report of neighbor’s kids teasing a pit bull and the dog al most got loose. ODOT received a report o f a tripped breaker so there was no power available for the free cof fee stand at the Boardman rest area. MCSO received a report from a deputy that he removed lumber from the highway at the mill. Oregon State Police received a report of suspicious men in a vehicle at the Boardman Christian Center. All was okay. MCSO deputy arrested Jesus Cervantes M artinez, 42, on a UCSO warrant for DUII. He was lodged at the UCSO jail. Martinez was also cited for Driving while License Suspended misdemeanor, Violation o f the Basic Rule and No Insurance. His vehicle was towed. MCSO received a report from a woman that someone drove out of the parking lot in RJ’s with her pickup. Heppner Police Dept, received a report of a man who was going through the glove box of a pickup in Heppner scared off by the own ers of the pickup. It was unknown if anything was taken. Heppner Police Dept, received a report that the vehicle they were attempting to locate on the above entry was on Gale Street. Heppner Police Dept, arrested David Robert La Salle, 20, for Unauthorized Use o f a Motor Vehicle, seven counts of Unautho rized Entry o f a Motor Vehicle, and two counts Theft II. La Salle was lodged at the UCSO jail with $61,500 bail. Medford Police Dept, arrested Laurel L. Gerdes, 25, for Posses sion of a Controlled Substance/ Methamphetamine, with a hold placed for Morrow County for Failure to Appear/D iscarding Trash within 100 Yards of Water. Fourth of July , celebration planned A Fourth of July celebration has been planned for Saturday and Sunday, July 3 and 4, at the Boardman Marina Park. Saturday's activities include breakfast served by a Scout troop at the marina from 7-10 a m. Dancing under the stars to live music will be held from 7-10 than evening. Sunday's schedule includes the following: 8 a.m.-5k Wellness Walk with registration at Indian Rock at the marina; noon- downtown parade, starting at the high school; ail-day-softball tournament and food concessions; 1 p.m.-horseshoe tournament; 1:30 p.m.-three on three basketball; 1-3 p.m.-kids' games and Children's Museum of Eastern Oregon; 1-3 and 4-6 p.m.-bingo; 1-9 p.m.-beer garden; 3 p.m.-lip-sync talent show. Afternoon and evening entertainment will be provided by Tony Madrigal and friends. Fireworks will be at dusk. Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, June 23,1999 - FIVE MCSO received a report from the Hermiston Police Dept, con cerning a domestic dispute in progress. There was no domestic dispute, but a 33 year old male had put his hand through a window. There was a lot of blood at the scene, but officers were unable to locate the man. MCSO deputies assisted with a warrant arrest in Boardman. Boardman Police Dept, ar rested Marvin A. Pourier, 35, on two parole violation warrants. Pourier was lodged at the UCSO jail. MCSO received a request for a deputy concerning a $ 1,400 pay roll check bouncing. MCSO, Boardm an Police Dept, received a report from a woman that 4-5 kids were at the Sunset Ridge Park beating up her son. There were no known weap ons. The parties were separated and it turned out to be a verbal dispute between younger boys. MCSO received a report from Kegler’s Sentry Market in Imgon that a subject had attempted to forge a check. The bank was con tacted and said the account was closed. MCSO received a report from a male subject that his mother-in- law kicked them out and won’t let them get their personal belongings. MCSO received a report of a vehicle reported stolen had been found at Cutsforth Comer in Lex ington. Heppner Police Dept, received a report of a custody dispute. A Musical group plans Heppner concert Generation 21, a Youth For Christ International eight- member musical team from Africa, will perform in concert at Heppner Elementary School Auditorium on Monday, June 28, at 7 p.m. Admission to the concert is free. Generation 21 brings to their United States tour a "unique blend of smooth Gospel music with an African touch that has attracted audiences in Africa and North America. Ilie team will share their message of spiritual peace and forgiveness that they have shared with young people in Africa. They will communicate their optimism about the present generation of African young people and what the Youth For Christ ministries in 29 countries of Africa are doing to reach youth with the Gospel," according to a news release. Generation 21 music is a "unique mix of vocal and instrumental music." The team members will also be sharing their personal testimonies, said the release. Generation 21 's eight- month tour will include appearances in numerous western and mid-western states before returning to Africa. Youth For Christ International has ministries in 127 countries, with various outreach programs to the over one billion young people around the world. Your Source For PAINT Twenty-eight walkers raised $4,109 in the Heppner community walk held for the MS Walk & Roll to benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Society on April 10. They were among several thousand people participating in walks throughout the Oregon Chapter territory. Those walks will raise close to $300,000 to help fight multiple sclerosis. "The MS Walk & Roll raises crucial dollars that help support local programs and services for people with MS, their families and the health care community," said Carol Vogel, president of the Oregon Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Funds also go to national research efforts aimed at finding a cause of and cure for MS, she said. Local walk chair was Menlee McDowell; key volunteers were Bob and Aloha DeSpain, George Naims, Bill and Danielle McDowell. Florene Robinson, Robin Jones, Monique Devin, Marcia Anderson, John Edmonson and George Jefferies; local sponsors were Bucknum's Tavern, Klamath First Federal, Bank of Eastern Oregon, Central Red Apple Market, Court Street Market and Murray Drugs. Local host families needed ASSE International Student Exchange Programs (ASSE) is currently seeking local families interested in hosting a high school foreign exchange student for the 1999/2000 school year. The students are between 15- 18 years old, are well screened, speak English and are interested in learning about America by liv ing as part of an American family and attending local schools, said an ASSE news release. Interested families have the opportunity to select the student o f their choice from student ap plications, family photos and bio logical essays. The students ar rive from their home country be fore school begins and return at the end o f the school year. Each ASSE student exchange student is fully insured, has personal spending money and expects to share in household responsibilities, continued the news release. Lexington plans meeting The Town of Lexington will hold a public meeting, Monday, June 28, at 7 p.m at the town hall. The following subjects will be discussed: an appointment will be made to fill the mayor’s position; a budget hearing will be presented which includes $ 10.00 increase m the base water rate in order to balance the budget and discussion on revenue sharing funds; Kittelson and Associates will present the transportation plan for the town; the Port of Morrow en gineer will discuss the upcoming water project for Lexington; and pending new and old business will also be discussed All town residents are encour aged to attend. MCURD to meet The Morrow County Unified Recreation District will hold a meeting at the Morrow County Courthouse June 24 at 8 p.m. The meeting will include paying current bills to: Barrett Business Service, Heppner Gazette Times, $57,365 to Morrow County School District and AT&T. Old business includes adoption of the 1999- 2000 budget. The oath of office was given to all members elected or re-elected who will take office on July 1. The treasurer's order and the Watermelon Festival contract make up the new business. The agenda includes the chairman's report, the treasurer's report, election calendars and appropriation for the purchase o f paper products. The next meeting is scheduled for July 29 at 8 p.m. at Columbia Middle School. That meeting will include the election of officers. Strategic plan now completed The Heppner Coordinating Council announces that the Heppner Community Strategic Plan has been completed. The Strategic Planning Working Group met nearly every two weeks from early September of 1998 to June of 1999. The committee heard presentations from various organizations regarding the needs of the community, the current state of affairs, and available resources and incorporated what they heard into the plan. The committee said they expended a great deal of effort to involve the public in the making of the document and made presentations to a variety of groups and civic organizations. Comments that were received were considered in developing the final document. The Heppner Community Strategic Plan, when adopted by local agencies, will be the guiding source for community development, said city manager Gary Breazeale. She said she startled them and they ran off, being careful not to set off the light sensor. She said it was the second night they had been there.
