Kopetski for position number 5; and Doug Flatt, Nancie Paxton and Phillip W. Houk for position number 7. All are four-year terms. Larry Mills of Heppner is unopposed for the Morrow County Health District Director for zone 5. Sharron L. Meyers, Boardman, is also unopposed for the Oregon Trail Library District Director's position 2, as is Barbara Hayes, Heppner, OTLD Director position 4. For the Port of Morrow, Marvin Padberg, lone, for director's position 4, and Larry Lindsay, Lexington, for director's position 5, are both unopposed. Ken Gneb, Lexington, is unopposed for the Heppner- Lexington Advisory Committee position 6. No one filed for nositions 3 and 5. Three people, Ronald H. "Skip" Matthews, Patti Allstott and Kim Cutsforth, all Heppner, are up for three positions on the Willow Creek Park District. Three, A1 Osmm, Bill E. Gentry and James Van Winkle, are on the ballot for three positions on the Heppner Water Control District. On the ballot for the Umatilla- Morrow Education Service District are Sharon K. Kelly for director position I; Charles S. Albro and Robert T. Keys for one spot as director for position 5; and Connie L. Slayer for director position 6. Sonja McCabe is the sole candidate for an at-large position on the Heppner Cemetery District. Conference slated on tourism Tourism is a strategy identified to help diversify the economy in Morrow and surrounding counties, according to Carol Michael, Morrow County Tourism chairperson. "Is your community interested in learning: more about preparing for the 2003-2006 Lewis & Clark Bicentennial, or how to work with key agencies, community leaders and developers to revitalize your downtown or finding out exactly what is nature based or eco- tounsm?" These topics and many more will be part of the 1999 Governor's Conference on Tourism, April 11-13 in Coos Bay. Michael encourages each Morrow County community to send one or more representatives to the conference. "The knowledge, research and expertise of the workshop leaders and conference speakers is excellent," said Michael. "This is a wonderful opportunity to build marketing and leadership skills and invest them in our own communities." The conference organizing committee has created a website about the conference. MCSO received a report from a female subject in Irrigon that someone came through her win dow and took her Kitchen-Aid mixer and a teddy bear. MCSO deputy arrested Forrest Allen Burkenbine, 40, Heppner, on a warrant for DUII. MCSO received a report that a 12 year old girl left school with a 19 year old and her father said he didn’t like the influence the older girl has over his daughter. The father asked if there was any thing he could do to keep the older girl away from his daughter. MCSO received a report from a school official that a student’s mother had been choked by the grandfather the previous night. MCSO deputy assisted a citi zen with a deer hit on Highway Largest group ever turns out for lone tennis The lone tennis team has the largest number of participants than they have ever had in the past. 'Tone's tennis team has grown by leaps and bounds this year," said coach Cathy McCabe. "Last year the Cardinals ended their season with 16 participants and this year they are beginning the season with 19 enthusiastic bodies." McCabe said she is pleased with the large number of students on the team. "It does provide a challenge with limited courts, but I have really enthusiastic people on my team and I anticipate having a lot of fun this spring. It will take a lot of dedication on the part of the team members to get court time outside of practice, but I am confident that each member will be competitive this season," McCabe added. Seniors returning to the team this year are Jessica Krebs, Tori Odinet, Niki Sullivan, Rosanne Baker and Katie Tworek. Jessica, Niki and Ton have three years previous experience and this will be Katie and Rosanne's second year of tennis. Feb. 11: Boardman Police Dept, received a report of a miss ing runaway at Dodge City Inn in Boardman. The runaway was found earlier. Grange meets By Delpha Jonas Lexington Grange met on Mon day evening for the regular meet ing with Master Clarence Buch anan presiding. A spaghetti sup per was served by the committee of Lyle and Virginia Peck and Dorothy Jackson. The literary program was a re search game with the prize won by William Norris. A report was heard on how an event will affect each member, either on a local, state or national level. The national debt and the use of surplus mon ies were discussed. The tax break for companies was also discussed. Chuck Norris could be a great speaker on some of these items and is available as a speaker. A motion was made and passed that the Grange have a table at the St. Patrick’s Celebra tion in Heppner. Committees for the Pomona degree to be given on Sunday were appointed. Tentative plans for the awards night were discussed. The Grange needs to know the 50 year mem bers’ names. Fifty year members are asked to notify Jean Nelson, lecturer.
