The symphony began in 1996 as a home school music class taught by Sharia Erich. It then expanded to include any interested youth and adults from South Morrow County, rhirteen members of the symphony are from home school families. Following the symphony, the students took turns performing for the audience. Their pertorinances included singing, piano solos, reciting poetry and Scripture and singing and reciting Scripture in Spanish. After the students' performances, their parents presented them with awards. Certificates were given for character qualities, completion of grade levels and outstanding achievements. Refreshments were served after the program, and samples of students' work were displayed.
