Home school students hold awards night
the direction ot Ron Neighom.
The symphony began in 1996 as
a home school music class taught
by Sharia Erich.
It then
expanded to include
any
interested youth and adults from
South Morrow County, rhirteen
members of the symphony are
from home school families.
Following the symphony, the
students took turns performing
for the audience.
Their
pertorinances included singing,
piano solos, reciting poetry and
Scripture and singing and
reciting Scripture in Spanish.
After the students' performances,
their parents presented them with
awards. Certificates were given
for
character
qualities,
completion of grade levels and
outstanding
achievements.
Refreshments were served after
the program, and samples of
students' work were displayed.

The 1998 Morrow County
School District spelling contest
was held May 14 at Heppner High
School, with many county partici­
pants.
Division I winner was Emily
Bauska from Sam Boardman El­
ementary School (SBE), Board­
man. Division II winner was
Elliott Bratton, Columbia Middie
School (CMS), Irrigon. Division
III winner was Joey Bourrie,
Heppner High School (HHS).

Emily Joy Pappas-a daughter
Emily Joy was bom to James and
Patti Pappas of Heppner on April
22,1998 at St. Anthony Hospital
in Pendleton. The baby weighed
8 lbs., 15 oz. and was 21” long.
Grandparents are Randolph
and Bernice Lott of Heppner.
