In past years, only one or two delegates were chosen. Matt Jepsen is the son of Bill and Nancy Jepsen of Heppner and Jessica Krebs is the daughter of Clint and Maureen Krebs of lone. Three other local students also did well in the contest. Erin Crowell, Miranda McElligott and Mary Weaver, all of lone, earned $50 U.S. Savings Bonds for their fourth - sixth place finishes. Margaret Jones Engagement Matt Jspsan Two local students, Matt Jepsen of Heppner and Jessica Krebs of lone, were chosen as winners of the United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth Speak-Off Contest. As winners, the two will join the other area winner, Derrick Gribble of Imgon, as delegates on an all-expense paid trip to visit the United Nations in New York City, Washington D.C., Boston, and Ottawa, Canada. They will join a group o f other Oregon winners and fly out for the two-week trip from June 22 to July 6. Casey O ’Brien and Sheryl Williams of Pendleton announce their engagement. The bride-elect is the daughter of Ed and Tanna Williams of Union. She graduated from Union High School in 1995 and is currently at tending Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, with her graduation scheduled for March of this year. O ’Brien is the son of Burke and Ginger O ’Brien of Heppner. He graduated from Heppner High School in 1994 and is currently at tending Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton. He is em ployed at Farm Equipment Headquarters in Pendleton. The couple will be maimed Saturday, March 21 at the Methodist Church in Union. A reception will follow at the VFW hall. IT WILL BE OPEN SUNDAY, MARCH 15 , 1998 The United Nations Pilgrimage For Youth is an annual contest sponsored by the International Order of Odd Fellows Lodges in Umatilla and Morrow counties. The contest is open to all sophomore and junior high school students. This year's contestants had to write an essay on the topic of "How does the United Nations promote improvements in world health?" The essays were judged and the finalists then participated in a "speak-off' contest in Pendleton. Officers elected were: president, Crystal Temple; vice-president, Crystal Weseman; secretary, Molly Barrow; re porter, Olivia Thompson; and phone callers, the Thompsons. The members discussed re quirements of members and keep ing good records. They voted on a name for the group and decided on “The Buckaroos." They scheduled their next meeting for Feb. 21. Members are to learn the parts of the horse and be able to explain how to care for their animal. The meeting was adjourned. Everyone who brought his horse met in the arena to leam how to keep control of the horse and use proper sitting positions in the saddle. The Tasty Quintet 4-H Cooking Club held a business meeting at Bnanne Jones' house on February 13. All five members were present. Members discussed community service projects such as helping with the multipurpose building and meals for those with special needs. They also discussed future 4-H activities such as camp and Speak Easy. The secretary Jannicka McGuire showed them the secretary's notebook. Bnanne Jones gave a demonstration of formal table settings and Knstal Temple gave a demonstration on napkin folding. All members went to the Speak Easy in Boardman on February 16.
