The award is not a scholarship, but one that goes to seniors who have demonstrated involvement in school and community activities The winner's entry form has been sent on to district competition Melissa McElligott Melissa McElligott, 1996 graduate o f lone High School, has been nominated as one o f 10 fmalists for the Johnny Carpenter Prep Athlete o f the Year award The award will be presented at the 49th Oregonian Banquet o f Champions on Sunday, Feb 16, in the ballroom o f the Oregon Convention Center in Portland Several Oregon sports celebrities, including four Olympic medalists, will be at the head table to present awards Harold Reynolds, the all star second baseman from Corvallis, now an ESPN analyst, will be master o f ceremonies More than 1,000 people from around the state will attend the "oldest and largest sports awards gathering to honor Oregon's athletes and teams for their accomplishments during 1996.
