Willow 676-9228 A LETTER TO THE PEOPLE OF UMATILLA AND MORROW COUNTIES Integrity and honesty are the cornerstones of any political campaign. In a judicial race, they are paramount. But as I began my campaign for Circuit Court Judge, I never imagined that honesty and integrity could become actual campaign issues. I am offended and angry that the Garry Reynolds Campaign has forced Robert E. Ridgway me to respond to their tactics in a manner that may be construed as negative campaigning. The advertising for Mr. Reynolds claims that he served in the capacity as a municipal judge. This is not true. In 1975, Mr. Reynolds was appointed by the City Council of the City of The Dalles as Deputy City Recorder. This appointment allowed him to serve as a pro-tem or substitute judge for the regular Municipal Judge when he was out of town or had other conflicts. This occurred for a limited number of days during the year that Mr. Reynolds lived in The Dalles. Further, Mr. Reynolds has allowed his campaign to actively solicit and accept political contributions from local lawyers who regularly appear in the circuit court in Umatilla and Morrow Counties. Such actions obviously create an appearance of impropriety, and serve to seriously compromise the independence and impartiality Mr. Reynolds would be required to demonstrate should he become a circuit court judge. I have not allowed my campaign committee to ask for or accept campaign contributions from local attorneys or those attorneys who are likely to have cases heard in Umatilla or Morrow Counties. It is still my hope that my campaign will be run exclusively on my 25 years of experience representing the citizens of Umatilla and Morrow Counties through my private practice, my community involvement, and my own record as the Municipal Court Judge of the City of Pendleton. I am proud of that record. I have a reputation and the record to back it up that I am tough on crime, and I will stand by that reputation. My campaign will continue to be a positive one, but I will not allow false and misleading advertising by my opponent to go unanswered. Robert E. Ridgway, Candidate for Circuit Court Judge, 6th Judicial District Position #1 Authorized by RIDGWAY FOR CIRCUIT COURT JUDGE Committee Hal Daley. Treasurer, 3303 SW Kirk.
