The Fair Board and Fair Com· mittee are enthusiastic about this theme because of the many ways it may be interpreted. The theme of this year's fair is '' Let 'Er Grow In Morrow County .'' Whether you like to work in your flowerbeds, vegetable garden, do baking, canning, sewing, or needle- work, there is a spot for you. All it takes to enter something i to go to the Morrow County Fair Office, get a Premium Sheet, an Exhibitor Number, fill them out and take th~m to the correct department. If you need any help, just ask the superintendent of that de- partment, o:- anyone in the of- fice would be glad to help you . Collector's Comer Do you have items tucked away that were made in the 1950 and before? The farr has the department for you. Ellen Kennedy, uperinten- dent of the Collector's Comer, has put in new and exciting categories for you to enter. Check page 60 in your Morrow County Premium Book and bring your item(s) to the fair- grounds Monday, Aug. 12 from 1-8 p.m. Ellen and her crew will gladly accept your exhibit. Jack Davis Carnival The Jack Davis Carnival will be returning to the Morrow County Fair for the second year. This year, they will be bringing with them three rides for the kids-the Helicopter, Roycuts and Train. There will be the Swing and Fly-o-p for the adults. They will also offer a cotton candy wagon, a reptile show and games. Fair Release Time Again this year, the release time for all animals and open- class exhibits will be Saturday night, Aug. 17 from 9-10 p.m . If you are unable to pick up your exhibits during that time, the building will be open on Sunday, and 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday the week following fair. During that time, articles left will be kept in the office or in a locked cabinet for safekeeping. 4-H exhibits will be released Sunday morning from 9 a.m. - 12 noon. Fair Sttks Guden Entries Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow? The Morrow County Fair hopes that each and every one of you are having a great garden this year, not onJy a bountiful supp- ly for your table, pantry and freezer, but also for the fair. Go out to your garden, keep an eye on your fruits and ve- getables, and bring them to the fair on Tue day, Aug. 13 from 4-8 p .m . and Wednesday, Aug. 14 from 8-10 a.m . There is also a lot for "freaks," if you hap- pen to have anything to enter under that classification. Enter Cake Decorating Contest Do you like to decorate cakes or even make gingerbread houses? The Morrow County Fair has just the classification for you. On page 46 of the Mor- row County Fair Premium Book, you will find the lot for Decorated Cakes. One will also find Class K, which is Table Setting Display. While you are planning your table setting to enter in the fair, let your child from ages seven-13 plan a " Kid's Party" table setting. It sounds like fun and a project that you can do with your child. Marlene Gray, superinten- dent, reminds you to be sure and call the Morrow County Fair Office, 676-9474, to reserve your space. Fair Offers Food, Food, Food Food, food, food. One will find a variety of food at this year's Morrow County Fair. Not only will you find the 4-H Snack Shack serving those yummy hamburgers, corn dogs, fries, chicken strips and delicious breakfasts, but Shali- mar' s will be back again with their famous Gyros, chicken fa- jitas, chicken and beef kabobs and elephant ears . New vendors this year will be ML Express from Weston with barbecued beef sandwiches, German sausage with sauer- kraut and curly fries . Zamora's from Mitchell will be serving soft tacos, tostados, Quesadilla rice, enchiladas, burritos, chimichangas and super nachos. A.C Houghton Parent' s Oub will have refreshing no-cones. In the middle kitchen, the senior citizens will once again have delicious home-made pies, along with Lexington Grange's taco salads and the ever-popular Soroptimists bak- ed potatoes. Puking Notice No trailers, campers, or unloading of livestock will be allowed in the county bus shed area. Best of Show On Display On special display during ~e fair will be the sweepstakes winners from each department. You will find this " Best of Show" display in the dance hall. Then, following fair, the pictures of the sweepstakes winners will be in the showcase by the fair office. The Morrow County Fair Committee purchased the showcase and picture frames with monies raised in the pick- up raffle held in 1994. Wed. Night Entertainment The "Outhouse Singers," a group from Madras will be at the Morrow County Fair- grounds on Wednesday even- ing from 7-9 p .m ., singing for your enjoyment. The Outhouse Singers form- ed in July 1987. The original group consisted of Denny Story, and Ron and Joe Mc- Donald. (Ron had an automo- Primary bile dealership in Heppner.) They performed as the Out- house Trio for two years until the addition of John Granby and Dave Fischer. They play a mixture of blue-grass, country, swing, gospel, Kingston Trio and a few original numbers. Balloon Artist Featured Thurs. Cosmo, a balloon artist, will be at the fair making a variety of things out of balloons on Thursday, Aug. 15. This should be an enjoyable art for children of all ages to watch . Cosmo will be at the fair from 11 a.m.-5 p .m . Fairgrounds Improvements While walking around the fairgrounds, be sure and notice the improvements that have been made on the grounds this year. With a joint arrangement involving the Morrow County School District, Oregon Youth Conservation Corps (OYCC) and the Morrow County Fair Board, new carpeting has been installed on the grandstands. OYCC has also pulled weeds around the grounds and put up new paneling in the boys' dorm. The paneling was do- nated by Marlette Homes lnc. of Hermiston. The girls' dorm has also been painted.
