Cheerleaders win competition awards The Heppner High School Varsity Cheerleaders recently attended two cheerleading competitions and came back with two prestigious awards. The HHS Cheerleaders com petition squad, consisting of Jayme Hansen, Cimmie Huth, Traci Dickenson, Sherry Sieler, Mandi Gutierrez and Steph anie Johnson, took second place out of 42 squads com peting in the South Salem Cheerleading Competition held January 20. The girls competed in the 1A, 2A and 3A division held at South Salem High School. Their routine, a max imum of three minutes long, included a cheer, a chant and a dance routine. All of their routines are choreographed by coach JoLynn Britt. The HHS squad took third place in the 1A-2A division out of 75 schools competing in the Oregon State Athletic Associa tion Cheerleading Champion ships held Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland. The girls were judged by a panel of 14 Oregon Cheerlead ing Coaches Association-cer tified judges in the following categories: motions, jumps, tumbling, partner stunts/pyra- mids, dance, voice, showman ship, timing, spacing forma tions, use of floor, transitions, crowd appeal, creativity and performance impression, for a total of 100 points. Come Share With Us Sheriffs Report The Morrow County Sheriff's office in Heppner reports dis patching the following business during the past week: Jan. 30: Morrow County Sheriff's office dispatched the Boardman ambulance to the Nugget Motel for an adult male with an unknown illness. The patient was transported to Good Shepherd Community Hospital in Hermiston; Morrow County Sheriff's of fice dispatched the Condon ambulance to a residence on Ward Street for an adult male with an unknown illness. The patient was transported to the Gilliam County Medical Cen ter; Morrow County deputy assisted a disabled semi at the 1-84 and Bombing Range road junction. Morrow County deputy checked a disabled vehicle on Bombing Range road near Cascade Specialties; Morrow County deputy assisted a citizen with no tail lights on his vehicle. The depu ty followed him to his residence in Irrigon. Jan. 31: Morrow County deputy responded to Brown's Truck Stop for a report of a theft of services; Morrow County Sheriff's of fice dispatched the Boardman Police Dept, to the Wilson Road Trailer Court #C5 for a power pole on fire. Umatilla Electric was also notified; Morrow County deputy responded to the Irrigon area to begin an investigation on a hit and run that occurred near Bakes. Feb. 1: Morrow County Sheriff's office dispatched the Arlington Fire Dept, for a fire alarm at Oregon Waste Man agement. The dispatch was cancelled; it was a false alarm; Morrow County Sheriff's of fice arrested Gary Vem Hobbs, 32, Lexington, on a Multnomah County warrant for Failure to Appear/Violation of a Restrain ing Order. Hobbs was lodged at the Umatilla County Jail; Morrow County deputy assisted in putting out a barn fire outside of Ruggs; Morrow County Sheriff's of fice dispatched the Boardman Fire Dept, to Wilson Road Trailer Court in Boardman for a flare up of a previous power pole fire; Morrow County deputy at tempted to locate a missing juvenile in the Irrigon area. The duputy was unable to locate; Morrow County deputy responded to the Boardman area to investigate a wrecked vehicle. Feb. 2: Morrow County Sheriff's office dispatched the Arlington Fire Dept, to a vehi cle fire on East 3rd Street in Arlington; Morrow County deputy responded to a report of a vehi cle in the road on the Bombing Range road. The deputy was unable to locate; Morrow County Sheriff's of fice dispatched the Arlington ambulance to Cedar Springs Road. One patient was trans ported to the Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles; Morrow County deputy responded to the Irrigon area for a phone harassment pro blem; Morrow County deputy began an investigation on a burglary in the lone area. Feb. 3: Morrow County Sheriff's office dispatched the Heppner ambulance to Alfalfa Street for a female with an ill ness.
