Cheerleaders win competition awards
The Heppner High School
Varsity Cheerleaders recently
attended two cheerleading
competitions and came back
with two prestigious awards.
The HHS Cheerleaders com
petition squad, consisting of
Jayme Hansen, Cimmie Huth,
Traci Dickenson, Sherry Sieler,
Mandi Gutierrez and Steph
anie Johnson, took second
place out of 42 squads com
peting in the South Salem
Cheerleading Competition held
January 20. The girls competed
in the 1A, 2A and 3A division
held at South Salem High
School. Their routine, a max
imum of three minutes long,
included a cheer, a chant and
a dance routine. All of their
routines are choreographed by
coach JoLynn Britt.
The HHS squad took third
place in the 1A-2A division out
of 75 schools competing in the
Oregon State Athletic Associa
tion Cheerleading Champion
ships held Saturday, Feb. 3, at
the Memorial Coliseum in
Portland.
The girls were judged by a
panel of 14 Oregon Cheerlead
ing Coaches Association-cer
tified judges in the following
categories: motions, jumps,
tumbling, partner stunts/pyra-
mids, dance, voice, showman
ship, timing, spacing forma
tions, use of floor, transitions,
crowd appeal, creativity and
performance impression, for a
total of 100 points.
