Plans will be finalized for the arts and crafts and white elephant sale, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m .-4 p.m. at the All Saints' Episcopal Church. .> lone Cardinals get ready to return a serve By Kara Miller The lone varsity volleyball team was victorious in their homecoming match-up against Condon on Tuesday, Oct. 10 beating the Devils 15-11, 15-5. With Jenny Sullivan as star ting server and renewed team spirit and winning attitudes, the Cardinals jumped out to a 5-0 score against the Condon Blue Devils on the lone home court in their first match. lone's LaRee Anderson and Stephanie Lemieux played strong back row defense and helped stop the Devils at three points through several rota- tions. Strong play at the net by Melissa McElligott, who had six blocks and two stuffs, Suzy Heideman, one block and two stuffs, and Kara Miller, two blocks, stopped Condon's ral ly and brought lone out on top, 15-11 and 15-5. McElligott totaled seven spikes and four kills and Stephanie Haguewood had two spikes and one kill. Keeping up good serving was an important aspect of the Cardinal offense as Heideman contributed six points*on serves while Sullivan added 12 points. The class will be held at 7 p.m. both on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at the Emergency Manage ment Office (the old Forest Ser vice Building), 325 Willow View Drive, Heppner; and Thurs day, Oct. 19 at the North Coun ty Annex at Third and Main in Irrigon. These classes are for Morrow and west Umatilla County residents. A representative of the National Weather Service (NWS) will teach the classes. Weather spotters are credited with saving countless lives each year in the United States. The NWS relies on these valuable volunteers for severe weather warnings and up-to-the-minute weather reports. In the second game, Hepp ner and Pilot Rock shared several side-outs. Dickenson made a save in the back row up to Moeller at the net and, with a power spike and kill, gave Heppner the serve. Hisler took command with five straight serves. Pilot Rock had receiving trouble which gave Heppner the lead, 8-6. The Fillies began to struggle and found the score 8-10. Moeller had a block at the net for a side-out, bringing Dicken son up to serve. Dickenson served five straight points, with Moeller and Mindy Binschus taking total control at the net. Jessica Sumner helped to put the game away with a save in the back court for one point, then placed a smart tip on the next play to give Heppner their final point for game and match.
