You'll be hearing more about the plan later. Recent mail from British Col umbia arrived at the Chamber office requesting two additional Heppner Oregon leprechaun lapel pins. Dorothy Heppner and her husband visited here this summer and she says, "I would like to compliment your city for its hospitality and general public relations; Dick and I enjoyed our stay very much.'' Incidentally, the lapel pins make a great stocking stuf- fer and are available for $5 at the Chamber Office. Speaking of leprechauns, the St. Pat's Committee is looking for an organization interested in putting on the Sunday lamb barbecue in conjunction with the auction. We have a volunteer to oversee the meat if an energetic group is willing to provide their skills for serv ing and the remainder of the menu. Please contact the Chamber office if you've got some good cooks ready to earn some dollars for a worthy cause. Have you nominated a wor thy recipient for the annual Town and Country Chamber awards? Applications are available in the Chamber office or call to nominate someone for man, woman, educator or business of the year. Nomina tions are due by December 15. Congratulations to Darlene Scroggins. There was a nice write-up about the Penland House in the Eastern Oregon section of Oregon Business Magazine. Positive publicity is great for our community. Thought for the week: "Television is a device that per mits millions of people to listen to the same joke at the same time and yet remain lone som e." tions on the Morrow County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation (ASC) Commit tee, which were to be held in December, are being reschedul ed to accommodate changes brought on with last month's enactm ent of the law to reorganize the U.S. Depart ment of Agriculture (USDA). According to John Kilkenny, chairperson of the Morrow County ASC Committee, the change in the election schedule is nationwide and is authoriz ed under regulations issued by USDA. Current members of ASC committees will continue in their posts until the new election held next fall. The law, which reorganized USDA, created a new agency- the Farm Service Agency, which encompasses all of the conservation programs of the former Agricultural Stabilliza- tion and Conservation Service ( ASCS), all of the risk manage ment programs of the Federal Crop Insurance Program (FCIC), and the farm lending activities of the Farmers Home Administration (FmHA). Kilkenny said the new com mittee system, when fully im plemented, will exercise in creased responsibilities in its enlarged role. "Rescheduling the elections on a nationwide basis avoids confusion, which could occur from hastily drawn rules and regulations," Kilken ny said, "and will create effi ciencies by using funds which would have been spent on this year's election process to be us ed in training committees in performing their added duties." Just a Reminder The month of November is a good time to have your septic tank pumped before your holiday company arrives and the winter weather sets in.
