A former Heppner resident, Don was born in Baker City on October 22, 1917. He served in the United States Army in the South Pacific for four and one-half years. Following his discharge he worked for Western Pine Association as a lumber inspec tor. In 1958 he moved to Kin- zua where he was plant superintendent until 1976 when he retired on a medical disability. He then moved to Heppner and in 1992 moved to Spokane, WA. He was a member of the BPOE, the American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars and Willow Creek Country Club. He was an avid sport sman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife Margaret at the home; a son William D. McConnell and his wife Michele of Kennewick, WA.; a daughter Mary Ann and a son Edgar, both of Spokane and grandchildren Ryan and Nina Hickey of Ken newick, WA. Obituaries Fred M. Hoskins, Jr. Funeral services for Fred M. Hoskins, Jr., were held Friday, Nov. 11 at the First Christian Church in Heppner. Burial was at the Heppner Masonic Cemetery. Mr. Hoskins, 76, of Heppner, died Monday, November 7, 1994 at Pioneer Memorial Hospital. He was bom Aug. 2, 1918 at Pendleton to Fred and Mary Corrigall Hoskins. He attended schools at lone and Heppner graduating from Heppner High School in 1937. He attended Eastern Oregon State College at La Grande where he was active in football and basketball. On Jan. 20, 1944, he married Kathryn Parker at Walla Walla, WA. He had lived and ranched in the Heppner area all his life. He enjoyed the outdoors working with animals and visiting with people. He en joyed sports and watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn at the home; daughters, Marie Hoskins of Heppner and Gail Picard of Pendleton; son Mac of Hepp ner; brother Robert of lone; and four grandchildren. Lind- strom was held Saturday, Nov. 12 at the lone United Church of Christ with interment at High View Cemetery in lone. Mr. Lindstrom, 86, a lifelong resident of lone, died Wednes day, Nov. 9,1994 at Pendleton. He was bom April 6,1908, to Swedish immigrants Otto and Anna Lundell Lindstrom. He spent his early years on the family homestead in the Morgan area north of lone and graduated from Fourmile School. He was a wheat rancher un til his retirement and during the late 1930s and 1940s, he and Gar Swanson established and operated the Standard Oil distributorship at lone. He served with the U.S. Ar my during World War II. On Feb. 14,1942, he married Katherine Griffith. He served as a member of the lone City Council for 32 years; was a member of the Bank of Eastern Oregon Board for more than 20 years; was a member of the Morrow County Planning Commission, a director of the Ione-lexington Cemetery District; a Scoutmaster, and in volved in other civic and charitable work. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, boating and travel ing with his family. He also en joyed participating in the work of several professional organizations and was a life member of the Oregon Wheat Growers League. He was a 52 year member and past Worshipful Master of lone Lodge 120 A.F./A.M. and past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star. He was a member of the Royal Arch Masons; Scottish Rite; A1 Kader Shrine; American Legion; Willows Grange 672; United Church of Christ, and a 50 year member of the Benevolent and Protec tive Order of Elks 358. Survivors include his wife, Katherine; daughters Christina Bridston of Tacoma, Wash., and Susan W eiper of Kelseyville, Ca.; and son Stephen Lindstrom of Turn- water, Wa.; five grandchildren and a sister Edna Helina of Seattle, Wa. While at PLU, we took Rachel out to dinner at a Chinese restaurant. After our dinner, the waitress brought the usual, fortune cookies. Osmin passes nursing boards Jerita Jo Osmin has been notified that she has passed her nusring boards and is now a registered nurse. Osmin, a graduate of Hepp ner High School, graduated in June from Southern Oregon State College. She has been employed at West Hills Convalescent Home in Portland. Mini carnival Sunday, Nov. 20 St. Patrick's Parish will have their annual mini carnival on Sunday, November 20, from noon until 2 p.m. in the parish hall. The carnival will feature a fish pond, face painting, wei sponge toss, ping pong ball toss, cake walk, and bingo. A baby's afgan made by Irene Swanson, will be raffled.
