The work in Oregon is part of a national effort s upported by the .S. Department of Agriculture to increa e awarenes of mangemenl prac- tice that lead to wholesome meat and dairy products, he explains. Divided into six lessons, each of which takes about a day to complete, " Quality A s urance and Animal Care" will be a voluntary program available to 4-H leaders later thi year, he notes. The lessons cover animal handling and safety, feed and feeding , housing, animal health and product quality. "We're trying to get 4-H in- to the forefront in this area," Jeffreys explained "We want to educate 4-H participants and \H~ al o want the voung people tn be able to inform buver about product quality."
