McCurdy, 94, of Heppner died Thursday, August 26, 1993 at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner. A graveside funeral service was held at High View Cemetery in lone on Saturday, Aug. 28, 1993. Mrs. McCurdy ws born Nov. 4, 1898 on the Davidson Ranch at Eightmile to Lewis and Ella Lovgren Davidson. The family moved to lone in 1904 and she at tended school at lone. She married Harlan D. McCur dy on Sept. 16, 1917 at lone. They resided on the Davidson Ranch before moving into lone in 1930. They continued to ranch raising wheat, sheep and cattle. Mrs. McCurdy was part o f the success o f the operation. In 1936, they moved to Heppner. She was a member o f Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge. Survivors include daughter, Maxine Gilman of Dulzura, Ca.; Tlve grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Her husband and a son. Harlan Jr., died earlier. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pioneer Memorial Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 515. Heppner, OR 97836. Sweeney Mortuary, Heppner, was in charge of arrangements. Maxine L. Stamer Maxine L Stamer, 72, of Spray, died Wednesday, August 25, 1993 at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner. A graveside funeral service was held at the Spray Cemetery on Monday, August 30, 1993. Mrs. Stamer was bom March 25, 1921 at Cody, Neb., to Harve and Alice Bartow Seger. She grew up in Cody and graduated from Cody High School and liv ed in Nebraska until* 1951 when she moved to California where she worked as an elec tronics assembler for General Electric, retiring in 1978. She had recently moved to Spray to be near her son. Survivors include son, Dave Stamer of Spray; daughter An drea Gwin of Fullerton, CA.; Engagements sister, Harvene Bolts o f Houston, Tx.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. L.L. ‘Sandy’ Fife The funeral for L.L. “ Sandy” Fife, was held Monday, Aug. 30, 1993 at the Church of Jesus Christ o f Latter-day Saints in Hermiston with burial at the Echo Cemetery. Mr. Fife, 82, o f Echo, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1993 at his home. He was bom April 9, 1911 at Weston to Luther and LaNora John Fife. He grew up in the Nyssa area and moved to Echo in 1948 staying there for 19 years while he worked in construction as a carpenter on several area dams. He moved to Goldendale, WA in 1967 and returned to Echo this year. He was a rockhopnd and he en joyed hunting, fishing and the out-of-doors. Survivors include sons. Dale of Echo, Rod of Hermiston, Terry o f Heppner and Brent o f Pendleton; a daughter Darrylin Collins worth o f Stanfield; step children Gary Couture of An chorage, Alaska, Robert Couture o f Wilsonville, Cynthia Walborn o f Mosier, Patty Couture o f The Dalles and Katherine Hale in Washington; brothers Dean of Boise, Idaho and Dennis of Ren ton, WA.; sisters Gayle Jensen of Salt Lake City, Utah, Lila Heraldson of Newport and Betty Beus of Nyssa; 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She is a graduate of Cascade Union High School, attended Chemeketa Community College, and is presently employed by First Interstate Bank. Her fiance is the son of Sam and Mary Hays of Stayton. He is a graduate of Stayton Union High School and Linn Benton Com munity College. He is currently employed by the city o f Heppner. A November wedding is planned Rebekah’s to meet By Delpha Jones Holly Rebekah Lodge and the Lexington Lodge #168 will meet on Thursday evening for their regular meeting. Plans for the fall activities will be discussed. The sale planned for Oct. 9, for a benefit for the building and to finish financing the roof will be discussed. The fundraiser will be an auction, with Triad Auc tioneers from Arlington in charge. This will start at 10:30 a.m. with a dinner at noon. “ The lodges are anxious to make this first auction a success and would like anything that people are able to donate,” said a spokesperson. It was fun to come home for the past queens reunion, thanks for think ing of it. Special thanks to Susie French Ward for a job well done in finding so many o f the past queens. A large pat on the back to the fair and rodeo committees and I understand the whole communi ty for the rebuilding o f the grounds. The long term plan will make a very attractive and workable grounds. The day was somewhat bittersweet though, as change often is, gone are the days o f Kid pony races, pole (then cyclone) fences, people setting on car hoods to watch the action, big grand entries, but your changes are good ones, you improved the ground in the arena and the park ing at this rodeo is great. Guess it’s just sad to see some of the old west style gone to the new era. Again congratulations to the whole area for the new facilities and the joint cooperation it took to get the job done, and thanks for the invitation to come home and relive old memories and renew old friendships.
