The contest is open to all seniors, 65 or over, who are residents of Morrow Coumy. The essay must be an authentic story of pioneer life along the theme "Memoirs of the Past. " The essay may be oral, written or taped on a cassette. If the essay is oral it must be no longer than 15 minutes; if written, 1,000 words or less. A $50 prize will be given in each of three categories, most historical , most humorous and most adventurous. Entries must be turned in by Monday , August 16. They may be mailed to the Morrow Coun- ty Historical Society, c/o Barbara Bloodswonh, PO Box 338, Hepner , OR 97836 or left at the Morrow County Fair Office. The conte t will follow the Senior Queen contest. Entrie will become the proper- ty of the Morrow County Historical Society. Entries for the Morrow Coun- ty Rodeo for residents and alum- ni will be taken beginning on Sunday, August 15 from l to 6 p.m. at the Fair Office, 676-9474 and Monday, August 16, from 9 · a .m . to 6 p.m. at Marlene Cur- rin's home 676-9711. All entry fees must be received by Thurs- day, August 19. The Morrow County Rodeo wil teature Steer Wrestling, Open Calf Roping, as weU as the Kin- zua Amateur Calf Roping for which a championship saddle is awarded (cowboys are limited to those with less than $5,000 lifetime earnings); team roping, cow riding; calf riding ages 9-13; mutton busting ( contestants must be under 60 pounds); barrels 12 and under, 13- 17 and 18 & over; and the stick horse race, ages five and under. Lisa Lowary There will be plenty of Morrow County talent featured as enter- tainment at the 1993 Morrow County Fair. Morrow County residents and alumni featured on this year's line-up of entertainers include Lisa Nix Lowary, Pat and Lizzy Smith, Tiffany Lloyd, Ken Mor- ris and Sheila Marie. A fonner Heppner girl, Lisa Nix Lowary, who graduated from Heppner High School in 1982, is just one of this year's perfonners. Lisa is hoping to pursue a pro- fessional music career in the future . Lisa will perform Satur- day, Aug. 21 at 5:30 p .m. Lisa, her husband Todd, and their two children Krista 6 and Logan 3 ½, live in Pendleton where Lisa has had her own suc- cessful child care business for the last six years. They also performed at the lrrigon Watermelon Festival . A Riverside High School sophomore, Tiffany Lloyd of Boardman has been performing since the age of six. Her perfor- mances include the Pendleton Round-Up, the Best of Show Tri- Cities Water Follie talent how and the Arnold Schwarzenegger F itne Fair. Tiffany ha also been the opening performer for the Ferlin Huskey. years and has accumulated numerous musical awards. Ken's musical roots lie in jazz, swing, choral, rock and trost importantly country. Sheila Marie, who will perfonn Friday and Saturday night, i a relatively new face in this area. She has lived in Boardn:wJ for lhc Last 2 1 h years. In that time she has performed in the Muddy Frogwatcr contest, the Water Follies, lhc PcndJdon talcrt show and many community and church sponsored events.
