Heppner Gazette-Times Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, May 5, 1993 - FIVE FFA chapter holds awards night The Heppner FFA Chapter held its annual awards night on Monday, April 26 at the Hepp ner High School cafetorium. Many members were recogniz ed for their accomplishments throughout the past year. Featured speaker Cliff Green, a former vocational agriculture in structor and native Heppner resi dent, challenged the FFA members to consider what they read, think about it and then ques tion what it was about. "These are times of tremendous change, but with this change comes new opportunity and to be looking for that opportunity,” said Green. He reminded the members that "knowledge is power and educa tion is the key to success.” The night was well attended as members were recognized for achievements in areas of leader ship, scholarship and participa tion in various FFA conventions and contests. M embers receiving the Greenhand Degree pins were Renee Devin, Jossie Evans, Tina Kemp, Stephanie Skultety, Jessica Sumner and Rodney Zumwalt. Receiving their chapter farm degree pins were Mike Alldritt, Shelly Ashbeck, Jeff Botefuhr, Chris Cookston, Willie DeBoer, Casey O’Brien. John Qualls, Stacy Wilhelm, Troy Wilson, Brent Wright and Bryon Zumwalt. Five members of the chapter were selected for outstanding leadership and scholarship achievements. Ryan M unkers, Dwayne Dunaway, Tina Kemp, Brent Wright and Jenni Ashbeck were honored for the scholarship awards. Members were also recogniz ed for their achievements in the respective agriculture project and placement areas. These included Ryan Munkers, agriculture sales and service; Brent Wright, sheep production; Jenni Ashbeck, horse proficiency; John Qualls, soil and water management and wildlife management; Zane Martin, beef proficiency; Casey O ’Brien, agriculture mechanics; and Joe Lindsay, public speaking. The highlight of the evening was the installation of honorary members. This award is given to individuals who have helped the chapter with its many activities throughout the year. This year the Degrees were conferred upon John Ripple. Stevè Rhea and Jim VanWinkle. These honorary members servey on the Agris cience Advisory Committee. The highlight of the year for the chapter is the recognition of the outstanding new member and recognition of the most outstan ding FFA member. These awards are the Star Greenhand which is presented by the Coast to Coast store and the Star Chapter Farmer Award presented by Morrow County Grain Growers. This year’s Star Greenhand award winner was Tina Kemp and the Star Chapter Farmer went to Diyayne Dunaway.. The Heppner Soil Conservation District also received recognition for their help in setting up and helping conduct the FFA soils and crops judging, contest. Receiving the award for the Soil Conservation District was Con nie Holmquist.
