F ow ler told the Boardman Chamber o f Commerce last week that “ Coyote Springs is a major step forward,” in the effort to secure power for the future. Coyote Springs was conceived following a Visions 2000 meeting sponsored by the Boardman Chamber three years ago at which Fowler predicted the future o f co generation, said a press release. The plant, to be located in the Port o f Morrow’s Food Process ing Park has been developed to date by the port and a subsidiary o f PGE. Named for a nearby natural spring o f the same name. Coyote Springs will use natural gas to drive turbines to generate elec tricity, and then the exhaust gases will create process steam for ad ditional generation or for use in the food processing industries nearby. Either one or two 220 megawatt generators will be in stalled by 150 construction workers and then operated by about 30 permanent employees. Kent Goodyear, president o f the Port o f Morrow, said the plant would make present food pro cessing industries more com petitive because the cost o f steam would be significantly less than the co st they now incur generating their own. He added that additional inexpensive steam would be available to attract more Scholarship trust seeks donations The newly organized chapter of Dollars for Scholars program.
