In Oregon, there are several kinds of pests that can invade stored foods. Grainary weevil, Indian meal moths, flour beetles, drugstore or cigarette beetles and spider beetles are among the culprits that invade and feed in your pantry. “ Dry pet food is the most com monly overlooked source of in festation,” says DeAngelis. To avoid infestations, DeAngelis offers the following recommendations: Do not store items in the pan try or cupboards longer than two months. Do not store foods in thin plastic supermarket bags, insects can chew right through them. Use heavy plastic, metal or glass containers. Freeze products to store them for longer time periods. Freezing can also effectively eliminate many pests. ^CHEVROLET; Over the years some things never change at a quality dealership HONES TY-INTEGRITY-RESPONSIBILITY-SER VICE Discard infested material to keep the pests from spreading to other foods. Grainary weevils are small beetles that live on whole grain kernels. Adult Indian meal moths are about five-eighths of an inch across the wings. Their wings have a broad, dark band. The lar vae infest grain, dried fruits, seeds, crackers, nuts, powdered milk, bird seed, dry pet food and cereals. Weevils produced by lar vae can commonly be found in foods infested by the Indian meal moth.
