SIX- Heppner Gazetto-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, February 10, 1993 Cardinals defeat Devils 45-23 By Luke Swanson Bouncing back from a tough Helix loss the lone Middle School Cardinals beat the Condon Blue Devils 45 to 23 at lone on Januarx 26. The Cards had good team ef fort and started the first half with a lot of intensity and pressure defense. The Cards lead 25 to 4 going into the half. Ten players scored for the Car dinals. Luke Swanson lead with 10 points and five steals; Joe Bacon added seven and three assists; Marc Orem and Steve Allen both had six; Jory Crowell five and Nathan Rietmann added four. John Garrett, Jacob Taylor and Kelly Morgan each had two and Pete Cantu added one to the Cardinals’ victory. Their record is now five wins and one loss. One male was transported to Good Shepherd Community Hospital with an unknown illness; M orrow County deputy responded to investigate a report of a theft near a residence on 1st in Irrigon. Amount of value of items taken were unknown. In vestigation is continuing. February 3: Morrow County deputy responded to investigate an alarm at Columbia Junior High School, Rt. 2, S. 1st, Irrigon. There was an intrusion, deputy was unable to locate. Amount of value was unknown at press time; M orrow County deputy responded to the Irrigon area to take a report of theft of a Stihl commercial chain saw from Lawrence Foster valued at $ 1 , 000 ; Morrow County Sheriffs of fice dispatched the Boardman Fire Dept and Boardman EMT’s to a structural fire at West Glen Addition. Fire was contained to the kitchen area; Morrow County deputy in vestigated a breakin at the Seventh Day Adventist church in Irrigon. A slim line phone valued at $35; a VCR valued at $250 and a cassette valued at $250 were taken; M orrow County deputy responded to the Irrigon area for a neighborhood disturbance. February 4: Morrow County Sheriffs office dispatched the Boardman ambulance to Wilson Road. One female was transported to Good Shepherd Comm unity Hospital with injuries; Morrow County Sheriffs of fice dispatched the Arlington EMT and Fire Dept, to a two vehicle accident on 1-84, west bound at 147. Two people were transported to Good Shepherd Community Hospital with injuries; M orrow County deputy responded to the Irrigon area for a neighborhood disturbance; Morrow County deputy responded to Irrigon for a report of a careless driver; M orrow County deputy responded to an Irrigon residence for a report of Burglary and Theft. Items and value were not reported at press time; M orrow County deputy responded to a burglary reported in progress at Rods Market in Irrigon; Morrow County Sheriff s of fice arrested Steven D. Woods. 18, Irrigon, for Burglary II. Woods was lodged. February 6: Morrow County deputy investigated a report of an animal problem in Irrigon; Morrow County deputy responded to investigate the report of a fire three miles north of Heppner off of Hwy. 74. The fire was an unreported controll ed bum; Morrow County deputy assisted a disabled vehicle on 1-84, east bound, mile post 168; Morrow County deputy ar rested Luella Audrey Jones, 20, Pendleton, on a Pendleton war rant for Failure to Comply, two counts No Operator’s License, two counts Violation Dangerous Dog Ordinance, Minor In Posses sion, Escape III. Jones was transported to Umatilla County Sheriff s office; Morrow County deputy ar rested Champ King, 43, of The Dalles, on a Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, No Operator’s License. King was cited and released on his own recognizance to appear at Irrigon Justice Court. February 7: Morrow County deputy responded to the Irrigon area for a suspicious person; M orrow County deputy responded to the Irrigon area for a report of suspicious persons; M orrow County deputy responded to investigate a broken windshield at the West Glen Ad dition, Boardman; M orrow County deputy responded to a neighborhood disturbance in Irrigon. Deputy was unable to locate anything; M orrow County deputy responded to a neighborhood disturbance in Boardman; Morrow County Sheriffs of fice dispatched the Boardman Fire Dept, off of Olsen Road, south of Wilson Road. Fire was a controlled bum and will con tinue to be contolling bum at this location for the next two weeks. February 8: Morrow County deputy responded to the Irrigon area for a report of vandalism done to school buses at AC Houghton; M orrow County deputy responded to the Irrigon area for a report of a juvenile problem; M orrow County deputy reported to the Irrigon area for a report of vandalism. This weed control program will be designed for the manual and/or biological control of noxious weeds. Noxious weeds are defined as specie« of plant« that cause disease or are injurious to crops, livestock, or land, and thus are detrim ental to agriculture, commerce or public health. The overall goals of noxious weed control activities are to limit the spread of such plants, reduce their numbers to a point where they cause no significant economic damage, and where feasible eradicate them. This analysis will not consider the use of chemical application, i.e. herbicides. This program will include all National Forest lands on the Heppner Ranger District. Harvest activities have resulted in compacted soil conditions which make regeneration difficult. Sub soiling would relieve the soil compaction and allow for the tree seedlings to become established. The mechanical thinning would reduce vegetation competition and relieve soil compaction within immature lodgepole pine stands. Stand health, wildlife cover development, watershed values, and noxious weed control are some of the identified issues and/or concerns which will be considered during the analysis. The subsoiling activities are proposed within harvested units of the following timber and salvage sale areas: Dry Swale/Ditch, Keeney Seed Tree, West End Seed Tree, In dian, Mallory Lodgepole Pine (LP), Scattered LP, Dry Swale LP, Swale LP, Jackpot LP, Coal LP, Scattered LP, Spring LP, Chips Ahoy LP, Texas LP. Grap ple LP. Potamus LP, Gilbert LP, Brush LP, and Suffering LP. This project could include 450 acres of subsoiling for site preparation for natural regenera tion, 375 acres of subsoiling for site preparation for planting, and 455 acres of mechanical thinning using a subsoiler. It is not anticipated that the limits will have to be reinstated the rest of this year unless unusual weather occurs and then the limits would most likely be placed on just a few roads which have unusual soil conditions.
