Wanted - Correspondent Wanted-a pen pal to exchange views on politics, social issues and fishing. Wit, insight and word power are nice, but not essential. Write: As l See It, P.O. Box 428, Boardman, OR 97818. You’ve been reading what I think about things for a long time. I’m more than curious about what you think about things. Too many folks think communication can be a one way street. I think it has to be both ways, everyone has to have a chance to have a say. This is yours. What do I intend to do with all these By Ed Glenn letters? Well, they will all get read, that’s a promise. The ideas from some will be the basis for some future pieces. Some of them may even be quoted. No, I won’t use your name, if you don’t want me to. Yes, I guess you can say I’m getting lazy in my fourth or fifth year of writing "As I See It” . You could say that, but it’s not true. There are dozens of subjects on my notepad to write about. The road from lone to the Coal plant, home rule in Morrow County, the gall of some bureaucrat to name a fish hatchery between Irrigon and Boardman the “ Umatilla’’ Fish Hatchery., the county airport(s), county and non-county parks and there are more. No, I’m not yet out of material. I just added the cost of recruiting medical personnel to the list, not the cost of paying them, just the cost of finding one willing to move to Morrow County. But I am curious about the kind of things others want to write about. So pick up your pens and dash off a bit of prose, send me a letter. We’ll see who wins the bet. You see, I have a wager on that I’ll get more than 100 letters from folks who just want to spout off, get something off their chest, or who want to tell me where to get off. All’s fair; proposals for marriages and requests for loans will all be received with gratitude and then respectfully declined. Your letters will suggest subjects I don’t even know about so it will be a learning process for all of us. Your letters will express points of views that I agree with in which case I will call you brilliant and quote your most persuasive passage. Your letters will be contrary to what I think is right in which case I will share this platform so our readings can make up their own mind. This is your chance to write with some significant chance to be published- and not have your friends know. This is going to be fun. I get letters once in a while from a fella named Tacitus but I pretty much know what he’s going to say. He’s a red-necked ultra conservative, a radical and you can bet he’s caustic. I get letters once in a while from folks around town when there’s some hot political item on the ballot but only then. The rest of the time they just grumble with their mouths. Put the grumbles on paper and we’ll all get in the act and grumble together. Sometimes I get letters from folks who want to note a good deed, or observe a pleasant condition. That’s fun. But today, I got a letter that sand wiches a little good observance between a couple of grumbles. Whatever it is that’s on your mind, write me a letter, tell me what you’re thinking and tell me whether I should use your name if I print part of it. If nothing else, drop me a postcard. That will count toward the bet. Weather Report May 19 - 25, 1992 High Low Free Rain Tues. 72 43 .07 Weds. 62 35 .0 Thurs. 69 40 .0 83 52 .0 Fri. 83 53 .0 Sat. Sun. 88 54 .0 87 52 .22 Mon.
