SIX- Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, May 6, 1992 Wheatland Pomona holds meeting By Delpha Jones Wheatland Pomona Grange met on Saturday at the Spray Grange hall for the regular meeting. The meeting, presided over by Master Barton Clark, started at 10:30 a.m. A report was heard from the Spray Master and his wife Clara, w ho reported on the 25th auction held recently as a money maker for their Grange. The auction was reported to be a great success with a roast beef dinner served in conjunction with the auction. The secretary of Willows gave a report on their grange and the Overseerer of Lexington reported on their grange activities. All granges are holding programs of interest to the grangers, touching on farming and wildlife as well as legislative happenings. There was some discussion of Measure #1 in the voters pamphlet. A distinguished guest, Verla Lar son. Dist. 0 4 GW A chairman and her husband. Palmer, were escorted to the master's station. A program and cake walk were enjoyed following the delicious luncheon. Delpha Jones did a reading on “ Value” and Barbara Gilbert on “ The Little Pil". The talk of the day was Verla Larson who spoke of the many contests and activities of the G.W.A. at the state and national level and she encouraged the men to take part in these as well as the women. Handicrafts for both men and women, cookie contests, toys, breads, candies and many others are available. The state meeting will be in June in south Bend. Master Barton Clark was elected the voting delegate from Pomona to the state session. The group was reminded of the GW A Scholarship, of 4200 from each district and an alternate. Granges are urged to collect Christmas cards, nylon hose, hearing aid batteries and pop can tabs which can be turned into the state to be given to organizations who make use of them. The group also helps with the Dogs for the Deaf and the Ronald McDonald house. There are many projects that are beneficial to the public that the grangers assist with. A cup with lovely flowers was presented to the oldest mother present. Mary Wilkins of Condon was the recipient of this gift. The resolution committee appointed Barbara Gilbert. Gus Strecker and Helen Crawford. This group met and voted in favor of the resolution presented. Spray Grange was thanked for the love ly dinner and hospitality and the state grange session expenses to help defray the cost of the sess- sion. They also recommended that the Grange Insurance com panies review their policy of retir ing the agents at a set age, and consider keeping them as agents as long as they can do their work properly and passed a resolution against triple trailers on the highways due to safety reasons. The next meeting is scheduled for the Boardman area and will be potluck. There will be a memorial for the departed brothers and sisters. Names are to be sent to Chaplain Eulenna Vaughn.
