Wheatland Pomona holds meeting
By Delpha Jones
Wheatland Pomona Grange
met on Saturday at the Spray
Grange hall for the regular
meeting. The meeting, presided
over by Master Barton Clark,
started at 10:30 a.m.
A report was heard from the
Spray Master and his wife Clara,
w ho reported on the 25th auction
held recently as a money maker
for their Grange. The auction was
reported to be a great success
with a roast beef dinner served in
conjunction with the auction. The
secretary of Willows gave a
report on their grange and the
Overseerer of Lexington reported
on their grange activities. All
granges are holding programs of
interest to the grangers, touching
on farming and wildlife as well
as legislative happenings. There
was some discussion of Measure
#1 in the voters pamphlet. A
distinguished guest, Verla Lar
son. Dist. 0 4 GW A chairman
and her husband. Palmer, were
escorted to the master's station.
A program and cake walk were
enjoyed following the delicious
luncheon. Delpha Jones did a
reading on “ Value” and Barbara
Gilbert on “ The Little Pil". The
talk of the day was Verla Larson
who spoke of the many contests
and activities of the G.W.A. at
the state and national level and
she encouraged the men to take
part in these as well as the
women. Handicrafts for both men
and women, cookie contests,
toys, breads, candies and many
others are available. The state
meeting will be in June in south
Bend. Master Barton Clark was
elected the voting delegate from
Pomona to the state session. The
group was reminded of the GW A
Scholarship, of 4200 from each
district and an alternate. Granges
are urged to collect Christmas
cards, nylon hose, hearing aid
batteries and pop can tabs which
can be turned into the state to be
given to organizations who make
use of them. The group also helps
with the Dogs for the Deaf and
the Ronald McDonald house.
There are many projects that are
beneficial to the public that the
grangers assist with.
A cup with lovely flowers was
presented to the oldest mother
present. Mary Wilkins of Condon
was the recipient of this gift. The
resolution committee appointed
Barbara Gilbert. Gus Strecker
and Helen Crawford. This group
met and voted in favor of the
resolution presented. Spray
Grange was thanked for the love
ly dinner and hospitality and the
state grange session expenses to
help defray the cost of the sess-
sion. They also recommended
that the Grange Insurance com
panies review their policy of retir
ing the agents at a set age, and
consider keeping them as agents
as long as they can do their work
properly and passed a resolution
against triple trailers on the
highways due to safety reasons.
The next meeting is scheduled
for the Boardman area and will
be potluck. There will be a
memorial for the departed
brothers and sisters. Names are
to be sent to Chaplain Eulenna
Vaughn. Roll call was Greenfield
