The Fillies played an almost perfect first quarter and were frustrating the mighty Tiger Scots taking an early two point lead. The Tiger Scots regrouped and started to take control of the game. The Fillies were beginn ing to lose their composure and they committed 11 turnovers in the second quarter. The Tiger halftime. The Fillies could not stay close and the game turned in to a blowout. With an over whelming press the Tiger Scots began to trounce on the Fillies. Colby Cummings led the charge with 24 points. The Fillies were down 53-29 going into the fourth quarter but they were not out. The Fillies managed to hit a cou ple of three pointers but that didn’t matter as they lost big time. The Fillies played with heart but met up with a superior team. Jodi Johnston led the Fillies with 10 points. Cards lose to Dufur, still number one The Oregon State University Extension Service is currently ac cepting applications for their 19*J2 NE Oregon Lambing School, according to OSU Exten sion agents Bill Broderick and Randy Mills. The lambing school is scheduled for February 20 and 21 at the Krebs Ranch near Cecil. It provides participants with a one day intensive “ hands on” learn ing experience. Instructors for the school in clude Dr. Don Hansen, OSU Ex tension veterinarian; Dr. Jim Thompson, OSU Extension sheep specialist; Bill Broderick, OSU- Morrow County livestock agent; Randy Mills, OSU-Umatilla County livestock agent; and the Krebs Ranch lambing crew. Us ing a large scale commercial sheep operation as the classroom lambing school participants learn nutrition, animal health, obstetrics and other management practices that maximize baby lamb survival. Because of the large number of lambs bom each day, the school provides as many learning situations daily as most farm flock operators would ex perience in many years with their own operations. Enrollment is limited to eight participants per day and reserva tions are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. The $10 registration fee includes the one day school and a lambing school notebook that contains many useful references. The Cards played two games last weekend, overwhelming Helix Friday evening and losing to Dufur on the road Saturday. While it made speculating about the District Tournament a bit more interesting, the places were already set before the game began. On Friday, Feb. 14, it was lone’s game from the get-go as they downed Helix 92-63. The fired-up Cards jumped out to a 24-10 first quarter lead. The four seniors on the team, Mike Gar rett, Gabe Garcia, Eric Orem and Brent Sheirbon, started their final home game and came out swing ing. By halftime, the Cardinals led 53-29, and continued to roll, winning, 92-63. Gabe Garcia led the scoring at tack with 22 points followed by Mike Garrett with 20 and Tony Bjerke with 15. The Cards dominated the boards, 45-26, with Aaron Heideman leading the way with 11 rebounds. Garrett The Cards encountered the Dufur Rangers Saturday, Feb. 15 on the Dufur home court. This was a team that matched up close ly with them. Dufur got the ear ly jump on the Cards and held it for most of the game as lone had trouble finding its mark. Coach Del LaRue called it “ a game of spurts” noting that the Rangers would build a lead and then the Cards would make a run at them. In the end though, it was the Rangers with the final punch as they won the game, 73-69. Mike Garrett was the game's high scorer with 23 points, followed by Gabe Garcia with 15, had 11 rebounds in the game and Garcia had nine assists in the match. 95th Annual Pre-registration for beginning golf classes offered by Blue Mountain Community College this spring may be completed by contacting Sue Warren, South Morrow County BMCC coor dinator, 422-7040.
