Gabe Garcia, in one of his best outings, added 17, while Justin Miller had 11 and Deacon and Aaron Heideman each had 10. Garrett also led in rebounding with 17 followed by the Heidemans’ with 10 each. David Wagenblast had eight assists, Gabe Garcia had four steals and Deacon Heideman had seven blocked shots to lead those categories. The Cards had a hot shooting night, making 39 of 78 from the floor for 50 percent. At the line, they hit eight of 12 for 67 percent. “ Again, we came out and played hard,” said coach LaRue. 4 4 Everyone did a great job and the kids off the bench played well,” he noted. This weekend the Cards travel to Echo on Friday, Jan. 31 and play host to Condon on Saturday, Feb. 1. Flu hurts lady Cards in match-up Cards dominate Culver By Anne Morter The lone Lady Cardinals split their games over the weekend, losing to Condon on Friday and defeating Culver on Saturday. After this weekend, their league mark stands at 4-1 and their overall record moves to 12-2. A nasty flu bug gave the Cards fits in their Friday night match up with Condon Jan. 24. Leading scorer Kari Morgan, didn’t dress down and most of the other girls on the team still showed signs of the bug. But the Lady Cards gamely came out swinging, and quickly jumped to a 15-5 first quarter lead. Unfortunately, it was then that the sickly Lady Cards ran out of steam and the Blue Devils got rolling. Muster ing just nine points for the re mainder of the game, lone fell to its rival 24-47. Nancy Morter led the Cards with 12 points. Janie Cupps had seven and April Taylor five to round out the scoring. Condon grabbed a 33-26 rebounding edge. Many were offensive boards put back up for baskets by the Blue Devils. January 25 at Maupin. The Fillies came out flat only scoring two points in the first quarter but played great defense and trailed only by four at the end of the first quarter. The Fillies got into early trou ble when Holly Eckman receiv ed her fourth foul in the second quarter and was forced to warm the bench. Heppner managed to cut the lead from 11 to nine at the half. Things didn’t get much bet ter in the third quarter when the Redsides jumped to a nine point lead going into the final quarter. The Fillies held on and came out of hibernation in the fourth quarter. Holly Eckman scored 10 of the unbelievable 26 points in the fourth quarter for a big league win. The Fillies defense came in to play again as the Fillies scored a 37-26 win. The Fillies win keeps them in a first place tie with Weston- McEwen in the CBC conference play. The Fillies however, host the Tiger-Scots this Friday, Jan. 31 in a key league game deter mining the number one spot.
